Tess Claudia Wrongfoot The Media and Lea…

I want to the media club on your house tomorrow Tegan in the club today and test leaving Strictly who's in the running for the biggest show and why was there a strange never found from broadcast magazine tells us more also on the show.

How do you make a talent agency fit for purpose in the digital world into town my Alexa to discuss new skills agencies need in order to stay competitive at all that Potter Warner Brothers Discovery sales on the cards, but he wants it and why has Ofcom Road back on its broadcasting code is in the audio Network Media quiz we pick some new business ideas.

That's all coming up in this edition of the media club come on in both hello Alex Macey for the first time the inter Talent you do a lot of people all of the time but now you're in the media club, who is your plus one? Who's there?

Can you bring him with well? I think one of our Talents I thought that be going to pick one so I've gone for a talent who has been on my radar this week, so I went to the Premier last week of Springsteen From Nowhere which I absolutely loved and have a meal and white buttons I think the real star of this film is Jeremy Strong his performance is outstanding and do I think that he could win an Oscar this year when he got so close last year, but obviously announced his going to be in the new the sequel.

I guess to the social networks and social recognition is Mark Zuckerberg and I think what a week for him.

He takes on these incredible rolls most recently real people and I just think it's one of the most outstanding actors right now and I think he's clearly having a brilliant week.

So this is Kendall from succession if you're if you're a fan of that I was quite intense at the premier.

Cos it is quite intense baseball cap.

I think is a very cool thing to wear to a film premiere and to be fair enough to go to the party afterwards and he was from what I can see the one star of the film that came to the party was social by the looks of things.

I think he does seem very intense but I think that he is definitely going to be the person that Stephen Graham is outstanding in this film as well as always but his portrayal of a Bruce Springsteen's manager Jon Landau is exceptional and he got some of the biggest moments in the film welcome to the club.

He would be hello hello.

Who do you like to add as your plus one day this week? I've also gone down the current room this week.

The only thing that we're talking about in the office at the moment is Celebrity today it actually hit 7.5 million viewers which is the biggest BBC One Show of the year so far so I had to go with a celebrity traitor but the

Person of chosen is Celia Imrie I think she's having an incredible week or so very brave the fasting on National Television for one but also I've been seeing that everywhere this week.

She's just been announced for a new sky Drama with another traitor Nick Mohammed and she's also been announced for a Christmas film that's coming up so I just have a great week.

Do you think she's got a chance of winning? I actually think that she's the only one that said all three of them so far.

She hasn't stuck with it will be brave enough to vote out see that it is a post approved parts.

My understanding.

Is it ok to keep in because I think it is something might be embarrassing.

I think if the Faces have any shot of winning it would be her maybe Nick cos he's been maybe more intelligent than he's letting on and maybe the Joe's I love the Joe I think that's pretty much guaranteed.

Ok, when we return let's talk strictly Luton airport Express from St Pancras to go 20-minutes.

You know turn up your radio Down Low

would it happen on a train?

Financial hopes and dreams as much as my fax and analysis at lgt Wealth Management how stability expertise and financial security having power to realise their Dreams for over a century dedicated to go and beyond managing money we aim to bring to life your financial goals and Vision for the future visit LG twmc Welsh management UK LLP and Ltd Wealth Management Ltd about authorised and regulated by the financial conduct authority welcome back to me club.

Tess Daly has been presenting BBC's flagship Strictly Come Dancing for 21 years now.

She's not she's leaving at the end of this season along with Claudia Winkleman her co-host Scott Brian friend of the show posted this on tiktok and Instagram today.

I think one.

Most surprising things about Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly leaving Strictly it's just the fact that happened randomly on an Instagram reel of loads on a Thursday morning normally is that a newspaper would have it on the front page then the broadcaster will be scrambling a statement together, but then you would also have a carefully curated statement by the presenters with this Instagram where was that to get ahead of a newspaper dropping a story why also comedy it's about 10:52 in the morning on the Thursday why is there not been any statement from the BBC about this journey to get an email to say hire these presenters of leaving them well.

Thank you for the contribution blah laugh.

Not happened.

It is odds I think every kind of entertainment Media journalist in the UK was like Sunday rushing to Instagram rather than checking the emails which I supposed to be a prospective.

Not what you want to happen.

So WHat score was saying was.

What you know we also seemed broadcast which was that you know one of maybe the tabloids about to break this and they're trying to get ahead of it, but you know if if it was something that you seem as something that was happening in the works for a while.

Maybe they would have an outside the start of the series cos if anything that might encourage the audience because people so attached to Tess and Claudia you know they've been there for 20 years and I think in Claudia's Instagram post.

There was some she said that the worst because I had been there for so long and I suppose causes especially her stock value so high at the moment.

You know who just talking about the traitors and you know it could be you know but it's just come to a natural conclusion but again what has with what's got the same the time you just strange because you would think that it would either be other release potential at the start of the series.

Big goodbye finale rather than halfway through the show and there was a statement eventually put out on the Media Center but at like midday, so there was quite a significant today.

So it is a Little Star Wars suggest the BBC did not know it was going to happen.

Yes, because even if they were like let them say it and then will follow up with you and release you would expect that kind of within the within a half-hour what happened.

I'm not surprised that they've decided to me.

I think I think it's a bit they've been there a long time is an I would say that about smart women and I've got smart teams around them and I would say there's a thing about going out on top as opposed to overstaying your welcome and I suspect this is a good time to go out on top think it's also not a surprise to do it well.

They can get a good because I don't think you don't want to keep the audiences.

Where where you don't get that moment to say in the last hurrah however.

I do think it.

Strange situation this morning I like Scott feel maybe maybe a newspaper had it was going to run it up wanted to be there could be such a big story and perhaps felt they had to run it today before someone else got it.

So I assume everyone trying to get rid of it which feels then the scrambling happens and I guess from the BBC's point of view the press release they have to be perfect and they have to take more time over it but I suspect maybe test included in feel like they had the time so I'm not surprised that we're going to get new presenters.

I think that's a good thing for the show keep it fresh, but I do think that the something has clearly happened to make it happen on her.

What was it 10 a.m.

On Thursday morning.

What that is will we ever know but I think it was already confirmed.

They probably would have announced it pretty the final show it seems like there was a bit of disagreement.

The stars in the BBC that wasn't a lined and that they decide actually we think it's important to go for it.

So we're just going to do it and then we'll have to follow on it does seem like there was some distance between you know often when there are these big announcements like that everything runs very smoothly and you know as we were saying you get that release and everyone's you know put their coats together because you know if you you know when we get a commissioning story or something like that.

You know we're going back and forth the waiting for all the same as to come through everything is nice in the line.

So that it all goes out.

So it does seem like there was some Russian the other thing that did feel.odd was if they were planning to leave and it wasn't they won't planning to announce that today but at some point at what point was that going to be? This is not that much longer of the show Les is another like what 45 my feeling would be that you announce it on the show not on the sofa at 10 a.m.

On Thursday in Blackpool

You make it you make it into a big moment and I think they'll be gutted that.

They not got that moment now that moment but 100-percent is another reason as to why they done it this morning so fantasy Strictly Come Dancing who do you who do you put in I've got a log.

I think we could do it.

I would assume they're not going to start really looking at New presenters until this series is wrapped early next year does that stop me or any other I'm getting pretty soon, but I think the names that I've heard that on our clients.

I just say the name that I've heard buzzing around already today and names like i t.

Rylan Zoe Ball Clara amfo the people that will definitely be in in the house is one of the biggest legs on television and it takes a certain kind of person to host it and a certain kind of person has huge live experience and that's going to be crucial and have fun and you got to love the show.

I think one of things that Claudia you know they love this show isn't seem like work.

So I think the BBC Good have to really work out who those people are and where they go from here and today is one of those days.

They very rare but I love them as an agent where you go all.

I've got something to do today and it and it is plotting and planning is to like who we think that we have that might be the best people to to replace them.

Would you like it or would you look at separate Talent that could pair well together? Yeah, I think both I think it depends on.

How do they want a double?

The reason why it has to be to be one could be free but we would look at that if we thought we had a natural thing.

I mean it could also be a cross agency thing going on here if I've got no the best mate.

You can also be right is another way to say we could do that.

Let's go in together, but now the moment.

We just sort working out not so much for the right person could be from ours, but just trying to get inside Intel that's what they might be looking for there's no point going to be important for the BBC just throwing any old name annoy everyone what they might not thought about it yet then on the medical Burton what they want the next series to B&M open at thought about it.

Yeah, but does it stop us from wanting to have that conversation.

No, I think about it.

I have BBC is always in drama.

There's always trouble something they've got a great show and if the current management issue as well.

Spell the song absolutely and I think I mean I saw some people starting to speculate whether like this would be you know mean that strictly was rested but I absolutely don't think there's going to be the case.

It's a massive shame and I think the BBC will feel that loss, but you know with the right people with people that it could really good excuse to reinvigorate the show because you again.

We do the right things on it and it just slipped down a little bit each year so maybe it's a good chance to arrange it with a they joined as well.

Yeah things have to be kept fresh and they've been there a long time and they're stars obviously to me.

I think it'd be very hard to argue that Claude it isn't the biggest TV presenter in the right now and I think she deserves that title and we'll see what they what they do next but I think for Strictly Come Dancing because they really change things up there really changed the Dancers either I think.

Great opportunity for them to do something different ok want to keep our eyes on Discovery is Hollywood after rumours of a sale emerge this week have a landline to buy it or where they sort of come from his question well, ended up kind of coming to lie after paramount made.

I think two passes on it so far which have both been rejected, but they all offers people are saying they do seem to be the most key in and also I suppose make the most sense Netflix were wonder I mean this is all kind of buzzing round and it last week of people debating who might take it and I think they're go see you Greg Peters you know he can afford cold water on it was like it's very unlikely that we would be interested and yet when we were chatting about it with people if it wasn't paramount.

I was saying Netflix his name was the one that was coming up the most and also if paramount did.

Warner Brothers Discovery it would be the biggest competition for Netflix I mean the word some other names bouncing around like Chromecast or maybe one of the big tech Giants like apple Amazon be interested.

We could help fill up apples and somewhat empty the little carefully created with a mean hundreds of cute archive I mean the brothers themselves in the midst of answering a split.

Yes, I'm going to put the sort of Legacy cable cable and cable TV assets in one that's very very mean and then the colour of the sexiest studio stuff that would be kept with the current CEO David be a bit of slicing and dicing you know paramount might just go for maybe the sexier option and then what happens with the rest is kind of unclear.

I don't think in terms of dieting at that.

They would make it.

Smaller than one of those two I think after that it would be too small and too complicated for the size of the kind of deals that I think they would be looking to make but it is definitely possible that it could be one of the other of those two options which had they are in the process of I assume that for as long as paramount sky dancer, the only ones making an offer they will continue to lowball until this competition with the other thing for them is because they get on very well with Mr trump.

They can probably get a deal through and very mind one of us Discovery have seen as part of their their operations.

I'm sure Mr Tumble take to have a big saying this as well.

I think there's a lot of companies that he doesn't like I wouldn't want to see get involved a content point of view and all the bus in the industry.

We want to ensure that there's there's still as many places to go as possible.

I think my fear whenever you hear these things is.

Shrink Odyssey no ultimately companies coming together by another company that's fine and still we start getting rid of other things and getting rid of all the things and what's left so interested see what would happen and what would get bored and would get card up and die be inclined to agree that I think though if they were to combine that would be such a huge raft IP and channels.

They would have to be some pretty major cost cutting is more of that probably redundancies as well just because it would it's too big just be too much to handle with ready since forgotten and ancillary redundancies if they had CNN and the CNN CBS news.

I imagine would probably come together as always been discussion may be seeing any be part of one of the Year the Legacy news networks I mean if they bought the whole that you could see you a future were paramount Plus on HBO Max combined you know you'd have a huge streaming.

Am I guess is why baby Netflix don't want to completely rejected it because if you had that vs.

Netflix then suddenly Netflix no longer the biggest thing in town today, or is it again now again breaker Ofcom said it won't be changing the rules on whether politicians confronts news programs and said they've updated guidance on their broadcasting code Ofcom I've been in a bit of a mess with their steroids legal judgments against them even buy buy GB news the likelihood of this on their on their network sort of is it a bit of a fudge of countries provide some two more advice, is there any clearer so I'm a slightly surprised by the results of this so they launched this consultation in May and that was following a court case with Jimmy

They actually won surrounding unusual unusual and that was Jacob rees-mogg lead programme that was about so in this consultation because they wanted to change some of the guidance around thanks rule 5.3 about politicians as presenters, but then in the car and they put out this week it said that when they're having this consultation.

There was a lot of concern by the people that they were insulting that it would could potentially lead to this kind of de facto ban on politician ever presenting programs and because of that Ofcom have now decided that they aren't going to change that rule so there was all this you know noise about it.

Then essentially nothing is going to change but they have clarified some guidelines around it to try and make That Rule more clear so that I suppose.

The last we're going to try and get out of it.

They don't it looks like she been used as one the odds on the back foot.

Yeah, I think I I worked a lot with a few clients over the years well with GB news and I know them very well, and I think is interested when you go into the studios and when you meet the the senior people there you feel like they're trying to do in the way you see what they're trying to do with the figures don't like that you can write.

You know they still here.

It would last more than the day.

I think I have to be careful this to not go too far and I think obviously there's been times where they've been told they gone too far.

I think they're still finding a foetus to like what the boundaries are and boundaries.

I was very intrigued about a year ago now and then out Boris Johnson would be joining GB news.

We haven't seen that yet.

What's about? I'm not sure what happened there.

But that was going to be such an interesting are having an annexe Prime Minister to meet up.

I think they will always do they do they really need it and what they done the doing pretty well, if you sort of you think of them is Channel like they're very successful common channel which appears to lodge a lot of a news channel.

They're doing better than some of the news channels are repeatable programming that so every that's on every day that people make a connection to sort out a bit more radio life what they do that and I should have the radio as well which is very successful radio figures this week as well.

I think they're just trying to do things differently and when you try and do things differently you know in a world that hasn't done things differently for a long time this happens.

I think obviously I will have to be careful that they're writing by the guidelines.

I have to but if you were to say to me will GB news continue to push boundaries as far as they possibly can yeah, I think so.

Working for them.

Will they get hot water again one day down and have something when this and I guess it's slightly feeds into that hole.

You know the standing up to us again.

Who are watching GB news more and more at the very beginning 1st year or two.

I don't know anyone know what Steven is is now.

It's not such a it's not such a now you know he's not unrealistic things to hear someone say to me that this is the channel they now watch so they clearly doing something right.

You know ok when we return a how do you establish Talent agencies at navigate to Slimming World will see you in a sec hello Media problems Patrick hear from podcast Discovery podcast marketing company thinking about.

What are some stories we've been talking about in the club this week's international sports strimmer.

The zone is making an audacious beard to snap up the Champions League global rights of streamers have made live sport work at scale.

We remember all the problems that Netflix had it early days, but there's only managed to stream 63 club World Cup games without a hitch at me.

My global hosted its up fronts event for advertisers this week really more information about the newly announced global Studios on stage with the newsagents Emily maitlis, the new show about the infected blood scandal alongside fellow Studios Callum Airey he was there for the first time and channel 4 is aiming to draw more young people to its music content commissioning a series of podcasts fronted by comedian entertainment presenters the Talents which includes Stacey Dooley and Ben's and as well as YouTube's a comedy ping encounter a recent report that said young people have more confidence in social media posts.

Established journalism at least all of our stories are available on our substack free to sign up to at the media club.com if you do give us an email address, you will still get briefed which is our weekly all the other podcasts are from the media talking about go sign up for free at the media club.com I guess it's still think about that before going for a digital Talent you've got a decent number of those on your roster.

Alex is this what my broadcast is going to be doing a 100% and if they're not thinking about it, then then they going to be far behind.

It's amazing to me.

How quickly creators have evolved into internet broadcasting and TV stars received on Celebrity trade on Strictly in a Nikon 1 George another I think everyone's woken up and the Brilliance of of our creator division are getting younger because I'm getting smarter and they know the better.

Television I think a few years ago when we were to go to one of our creator studio.

Would you like to be on TV there was a bit of this kind of light do I need it up even created now see them coming together with them.

Is there any to be on TV now? They got their audience so I think so, I think the water down vs.

Man on the telly no sure, but I think I think you'll find a new audience.

I think first of all you find a completely new audience that aren't following you on YouTube or any of social life gives you as a creator give you credibility that is just not achievable elsewhere to be a crazy now on television is like a stamp of approval and I think they also want impress their mums and dads on TVs always have a real job and career but for us are created division and our Unscripted division which has all the TV presenters.

It's kind of one of the ITV presenters and moving to YouTube and I YouTubers are moving to TV and I feel like it's just one big thing now so yep for me.

Working with our creators is really exciting as it's not just about social media brand deals.

It is about TV podcast books and everything else that are traditional Talent that being a problem that the organisation to sort of importing creators rather than creating a new Talent themselves.

I think there is a bit of that.

I think what we really need to do is to find commissioners and producers who understand how I create a works with their audience and how they may concern and how they can make a show or an episode of something within a few days and get more viewers in a TV show that takes 6-months to make can get I think people pretend that doesn't exist when it does I think I think TV can learn so much from that everyone starts to do that.

I think we're going to see some really incredible television which will be creative lead creator produced is that happening yeah in in?

So install bus is a couple of shows that I'm aware of where the producer maybe not solely maybe there's a co-production and I'm not going on at the producer is the creator and they have the Vision and they're running it like it's a YouTube show and I think that's really cool and I think we're going to see more of that and we're pushing that big time and we're working a lot of Channel 4 ident Channel 4 out of everyone is is really working hard to leave the way in terms of television sounds of ringing people and I think they're doing a great job for a YouTube channel which is a new Talent focused and I think it's really important for us to know whenever we meet new Talent where they come from one of the questions they ask, is is it? Where can you breakthrough into TV and previously in over the years? You've had everything from Blue Peter to T4 I know things have gone over the last saw two three four five years.

We found great new Talent the hardest challenge is breaking them, but now there's a there's a place.

Play Scooby 4.0 and we've got a grab that and hold onto that make more of those of those avenues because without that we're gonna we're gonna lose a lot of people with and lose a lot of great Talent who does won't be able to find their way into television you so much younger Talent there that you are the youngest MD 21034 was 34.

I'm definitely quite a large operation.

Why was it important for a 34-year old to do it all with that? Just did it the age don't really matter know when I took opening time for 13 years and we've nearly 35 years old three different sizes and different forms when I took over running the company during covid.

We only did 3 things.

We only had acting Unscripted TV you know other things and music and I thought that was very limiting and I had this fear the sleepless nights where I was worried that our clients were going to outgrow us because over the last 5.

Talent have wanted to not stay on one leg, they wanted to try everything and do everything can take their Talents all over the place and my fear was the we wouldn't be able with only three divisions.

We won't be able to keep an ultimately with losing a walk out the door.

So is very important to me to diversify and I think there any Talent or any agency that sticks to the one lane is running a massive risk of not being able to keep up with where this industry is going so very quickly I assembled some great staff it was coming in new divisions and we know the 10 different things.

I'm not even satisfied with that really.

I think there's more we can do but it meant that every time a client came to us and said I've got that idea and I want to act I want to see I want to present I want to be a gamer.

I knew the four walls we could service that and I think that it was important to me to not be old-fashioned important to me to to have this ecosystem that

To wear our clients were heading towards and not to be defensive or blinkered about about that and even looking at celebrity Traders who never ever thought the Celia Imrie here on a reality show and could hurt and achieve that I never wanted to be in a position where we couldn't do that and I had this fear and one of my big things and maybe is my age of when I've had you know what's come to my chairman about in the job was we're not doing enough and we're seeing the proof of that now because we have a lot of multifaceted clients who loves being with us because they can keep all their businesses under One Roof so that's kind of Howard set up over in five years.

We have grown from a team of 20 to 18 of 51 which is a lot.

It's never been about being big.

It's just about being able to see the things we want to achieve.

This is the sort of something we hear from you lots of previously Talent agents production world on there as well.

Yes, and I think.

Everyone now is turning around being my god.

We need to look at digital and I haven't heard the term creator economy more than in the last night 2 months on the 2nd of November but I think there is that thing of you know people want to be involved in all aspects of the production.

I think that's what they find exciting about TV is that they get to be involved in making something at a bigger scale that feels like you said like my Mum I've got a proper job.

I'm working on this big thing rather than something that is primarily viewed on the phone.

I can see why that I feel so much and I will have this fear of being left behind and this industry is moving I've never seen It Moves so fast you go on holiday for a week and you come back and that week you've lost you know.

And anything for us a star from in any know if it's me being here for example and I'm a big fan of yourself that I've got a substrate like for me even as a business leader in this industry.

I feel that I have now be doing different things time.

Just be doing deals.

I now have two you know I'm no LinkedIn or son's that can podcast and I think that you know everyone is in a race and then anyone that is embracing all the ways to distribute content all the different platforms and down very free to enter if you're not if you're not grabbing those with both hands.

I do worry you still out where you might be in 5 years time and becoming producers and making you know I think these things are just a natural evolution of Talent getting smarter over my point of view.

Is is not you know what time is running 100 mph.

I need to run 120.

They want it badly.

So it's really fascinating time to run a talent agency because it is relentless.

And every every week every month is something new that we feel like we better find out about that before I telling do because they will come to us asking to be on it and we better now.

I stuff yourself.

Do you Michael's and you're basically saying it so that everyone should have an ancient.

Yeah.

I believe that.

There are some Talent that don't sometimes if you're a really large Talent they opt out of the system and often their sister or my sister-in-law ends up being there there agents that I do maybe I'm being thinking that I'm doing the job that old mate and brothers into I think that but I understand why some top Talent but the truth is my feeling is this when you win the something important in your life health aurora or needing a more you always Aurora

Going to get a specialist so I find it weird that in your career which one the most important things you can do that.

You wouldn't have a specialist then to the people that I get going without a tap without an agent and who are very big.

There's enough coming in that.

I think it it's ok for now, but I do think at some point there needs to be more and I think I need to be more attractive outreach, which is where we come in so I don't think we're going anywhere and I don't think I'd like to see them.

I've had that conversation but I do think all tenant need an agent because we are specialists and where they're to amplify their work and anyone that thinks that we needed I would love to have that conversation with them.

You've just got enough time of your network media quiz.

Let's see how much attention I guess I've been paying to the media news this week.

So this week's shark then if he if this week's AWS outage.

Tell us anything is that we should be less reliant on single companies and champion the small businesses of tomorrow and that's why I'll be highlighting some new business ideas pitch to you in the style of Dragons Den shark tank ok and once again Alexa audio network has patient assistant producer Matt I'm one of his more underwhelming Greece and Fraser the playlist of music to score today's game ok, so that's the person with your name's if you know the answer to Heather your say I say let's play shotgun.

Screenshots, I'm putting a radical new presenter that doesn't need a salary breaks or sleep yet can hosts the TV Show and now seek investment to scale this present as a service broadcasters worldwide centre who appeared on a dispatches programme her name was something like Ayesha Gunn what yes this is Carlisle Productions colour viewers Live channel 4 dispatches with an AI reveal that she wasn't actually a real person you think people like me.

She's very good at kind of bits to Campbell but they weren't able the way that were sat down now because the technology would mean that like her hands would look like it wouldn't it wouldn't.

I've seen it a couple of times.

I think I listen to a podcast by the newsagents well.

It was good ordered a similar thing when he got his voice to be like putting it was Lewis Girls voice, but it wasn't a I took it and it was quite freak.

It does make you quiet and comfortable.

I think I like to think that is a safe for now because we have hands that look normal worry.

Maybe a virtual version of Ruby would be grateful that we were you fooled by the III was I thought they had a fantastic job.

I think is a one of kind of let's do this opposite.

It was great.

I don't know.

I'm not going to hold big thing about about whether you can represent an agency can represent and I am actor apparently or presenter.

I don't think I need to start doing that just yet, but yeah, I had to be fair.

I thought was very impressive.

Ok here's shark Den pitch number to today.
