What price for an aerial installation?

What prices have you been quoted and paid for an aerial installation?

What prices have you been quoted and paid for an aerial install
published on UK Free TV

In responses to the guideline I posted about how much having a new aerial fitted should cost, Ian Grice posted: "£40-£50? Every aerial fitter I contacted wants at least £150+VAT considering you can get a class 3 aerial for under £10 and a class 2 for under £15 and cable is 40p a metre why are they charging so much for 30 minutes work?"

OK, for some places putting up a TV aerial is hard work, such as multi-story properties. As many people will simply be exchanging a Group A, B, C/D, E or K aerial for a wideband type, often without changing the supporting pole or cable, a high price cannot be justified.

I am concerned that some companies will exploit vulnerable groups (such as the elderly).

So, I what prices have you been quoted for aerial installations? What price have you paid for installation?

Do you know of any companies to avoid? Do you know of any companies that are good value for money?

Or do you work for a great aerial installation company?

Hi all,

Last summer I took a booking from a lady who wanted a aerial directed at wenvoe as this was a fringe area job I qouted her £120-£150 depending on what she actually required (bracketry / size of aerial / or if a masthead was required) benchmarked equipment was to be used, that evening i had a abusive phone call from her husband saying our prices were outragous he cancelled the job saying he would do it himself.
This morning i received a call to change a cable on a aerial, i asked some questions but the customer refused to answer them & said just come and see what i need, so this afternoon we went there, first thing we spotted was a newish 10 element aerial (sharing with a local pointing aerial which was bigger !) a rusty old pole pointing towards wenvoe the white cable on the roof compleated the classy install. A guy on walking sticks answered the door, I proceded to explain that the cable may not be the cause of his missing channels & breaking up of the channels that he did get, & offered to either replace the cable as requested with no g'tee it would cure the problem or quote £120-£150 depending on what we had to fit, he said it was much & he would not pay that much, I replied it was a difficult dangerous job & he said i know "i fell off the roof last summer when i put it up there & shattered my pelvis" It was at this point it clicked tha this was the guy from last summer ! He said if we wouldnt do it cheaper we could go he would get someone else, I said good luck with that & left him to it.

I was thinking as i left that if he couldnt learn anything from falling off of a roof about trying to cut corners then there was very little anyone could do to help him, its not like he was broke he lived in 1/4 million pound house (which goes a long way in the valleys) & had a newish big bmw outside.

Mark Aberfan Aerials: Thanks for that. Two words spring to mind. "Rod" and "Hull".

Some people just won't learn.

What Mark has written above would be my fitting obituary... I come across these people on a daily basis unfortunately. It's disappointing when people moan over money it is only when they get charged twice, replace a few broken tiles or have two prats turn up at the door with shoddy ladders that cause endless grief they twig that aerialman had a point...

You should have just written a quote £119 plus VAT for a Replacement Hip.

Thing is poor old Rod Hull had an excuse, he tried himself because he never had a penny to his name.
Nothing worse than giving the best price you can to someone with an 8 bedroom house and 3 or more new cars in the drive. For them to turn round and say thanks for coming I will call someone else.
Try working round ascot fella's he he

We got a call from a customer a few weeks ago when I went to the house it was a 3 story flat the roof was a real terror climb
at least 40 foot high covered in moss with a concrete yard below you get the picture. the only way to get to were the aerial was mounted was a 2 tear climb and a bum skid along the top of the roof'' I quoted £95 for the job . they said they had a cheaper quote so I left a few days latter I was passing the house and had look up at roof I just could not believe my eyes someone had fitted a B&Q special on a loft aerial bracket right at the top of the apex into the wood fascia board with white cable hanging down the roof and in through the window a real DIY job the length some people will go to save a few quid .if you look at the price of the aerials from the sheds they must have paid at least £30 for it and the price of the cabling and bracket they saved about £30 not worth risking your life for . over the last few days we have had some heavy winds around here and guess what we went pass the other day and it was hanging of the roof;

We had an aerial engineer working in our new house because there is no chimney the engineer has the aerial protuding through the roof tiles. I noticed as the wind got up the tiles were rocking and the aerial mast is making a hell of a lot of noise, to my horror i went into the attic space were there is the metal extractor vent and it appears the aerial mast is simply cable tied to the chimney vent as it passed through the felt and up above the roofline. The hole is infact so large i can see the aerial rods and blue end caps. I have made several attempts to safely remove the aerial by removing the cable safely from the box below the mast but now the aerial is lying at an angle and wrecking the tiles. Is there anyway i could mend it or dislodge the aerial safely through the roof. I wish i had read this site before i got an aerialman.

Hi All
Talking about avoiding 0800 numbers the latest scam down my part of the country is using local phone codes, so i think maybe they are using a persons house or flat, and just getting the calls redirected, theres one i noticed gives a address in the centre of town, which portrays been a shop, but it isnt.
Im sure there actually breaking the law under false information.
The thing is, we as dealers know what to look for, but the run of the mill customers dont, they only check after they been taken for a ride.
As a tester just put in your search bar Aerials Bristol, and take note of the details, then type in Aerials swindon a good 80 percent make out there local to everywhere lols they just change the name of the citys to suite.
There are only actually 5-6 Aerial/satellite businesses based in my home town, and im one of them, but look in yellow pages or the net, and theres hundreds haha, you got to laugh, really its a joke.
And some of the workmanship is a disgrace, you know they go on these working at hights courses to be safe, but are they actually teaching them on these courses to make the jobs safe for the public, i can picture it now mrs molly walking by and bits of chimmney stack falls on her heads, because i kid you not all this bad... i was going to call it workmanship but i cant really use that word can i, because its not, my six year old has more common sence.
All this common bad workmanship is centred round bad training and bad habbits.
Anyway i need to carry on with these quotes, ive been offered 3 blocks of flats to install irs systems and they want someone local haha, but i was told to sharpen my pencil, and you all know what that means.
Warm regards
Dave, Avon Aerials of Bath

Your lucky buddy I've had someone dump 3 aerial companies on the same road as me with 3 different local numbers and different websites.
When you look at the vat number they are all registered at the same address 30 miles away.
How many dirty mags do I want to send to that address he he
What a horrible way of operating
