Single frequency interference
There are several different type of interference that cause problems. This page deals with the situation where:
- Freeview reception is perfect or near-perfect most of the time
- Several channels are missing, but they are all on the same 'multiplex'
Local analogue interference
Local analogue interference is caused by household video devices that you can attach to a television such as: If you have any of these devices, you will need to work out which of these is blocking the reception of a Freeview multiplex by turning off the suspect device and then rescanning for channels on the Freeview box.If powering off the device restores the Freeview channels from the blocked multiplex, you will need to either stop using the problem device's RF output by disconnecting the RF output cable permanently, or by changing the RF channel number that that device uses. See, for example, How do I change the RF output channel on a Sky Digibox?
You can find a list of the frequencies that are not in use at your location by putting your postcode into the My Freeview reception and looking under the "Free RF channels" section.
Non-wideband aerial in some areas
In some places you will need a wideband aerial to receive all the Freeview multiplexes. For example in Central Birmingham, the Sutton Coldfield has multiplex D on an 'out of group', so you cannot view Film4 or ITV2+1 without an aerial upgrade. To find out if you need an aerial upgrade, see My Freeview reception.

We've lived with this nightmare for years. About twice a year for no reason we lose all Mux 2 channels even on the upstairs TV (which usually copes quite well on freeview) when the weather is GOOD.
Sometimes we re-tune and it works. This week (march 23rd 2011) it hasn't. It is bizarre.
Nothing around us in the environment has changed.
We've also read help forums until we're blind.

Recently lost everything on MUX2 on three recently acquired Logik digital TVs following gradual problems resolved by rescanning, but this no longer works. (All were fine to begin with - problems started about 6 weeks ago.) Tried switching off PVRs, wi-fi, digital phones, etc. and lots of rescans. No difference. Sony TV works fine on all digital channels and if I connect the Logiks via PVRs then I can receive MUX2 channels fine. Hannington is the transmitter; Hook, Hants our location :(; new aerial, booster, rewiring late last year. Is there a problem with Hannington strength or do I have a case against the Logiks' tuners under "fit for purpose"? Any suggestions appreciated.

First of all, thank you for providing what seems to be the most helpful advice on the internet about these problems.
I have a Sony Bravia which has in-built freeview TV and had been fine (with the odd re-tune necessary) for the past three years. But I have lost, for approximately one week now, my multiplex 2 channels. Since this problem, I have re-tuned several times, unplugged the cable, the TV, waited, re-plugged and re-tuned again but all to no success: no signal is reported and I don't have a picture, only very patchy sound.
A couple of days ago, I checked with my neighbours across the hall in my block of flats about their freeview and, while it's grainy and possible to see and hear to a certain extent, multiplex 2 is definitely a lower quality than the other channels.
I live in SW15 and would be grateful to hear your suggestions to restore the missing multiplex.
Many thanks.

Hi, We have the same issue as you JLK. The Multiplex 2 channels have dissappeared. It all worked fine yesterday and now its gone. I am in N3 - Golders Green. Thought there was a problem with our aerial obviously its something to do with the reception for this set of channels. Can anyone else confirm problems with freeview.....Or better still can anyone assist with these problems.

Same thing here. MUX 2 has disappeared entirely. Have reset my Bravia to factory and rescanned but still nothing. I live in TN8 (Kent/Surrey Border) and was fine until about a week ago. We had a digital aerial installed 2 years ago and had been fine.
Anyone any ideas how I can get them back, or will I have to call out for an aerial guy?
At the minute I'm getting really hacked off with it!

Hi - I seem to have the same issue as JLK (and I'm in SW15 too), John and Gezza.
I have a Humax HDR FOX T2, and a Panasonic Plasma with Freeview. My aerial feeds into the humax, and I then run both a HDMI connection to my TV, and also a regular aerial via aerial-out on the humax. I do this to use an AV sender (and watch different channels) with a kitchen TV.
I only have the problems when viewing through the HDMI connection. If I use the built-in TV freeview it's all fine -but that has not been retuned in a while.
I've tried the various resets / rescans and still no luck.
Anyone got ay ideas?

I've just found some info about a Mux HD software change which happened on 22nd March - this may have something to do with all our issues perhaps?
