Tina: Thanks for the update. Well what to do is purchase an HDMI lead and use that to connect your Sky box to the TV, as this will now allow the Sky boxes single scart socket to be used exclusively for recording purposes on your DVD/ VCR combi's ext2 or AV2 input scart socket.
You then use another scart lead to connect the combi's AV1 socket into same on the TV.
This would allow the TV to have a spare scart input socket that you could possibly use for something else at any time, such as a separate DVD player for playing discs rather than through the combi.
Note: You "might" have to use the A/V button on your TV's remote control to switch over to the DVD combi should it not automatically switch the TV over when you turn the combi on.
By the way do NOT pay any more than about £7.00 or so for an HDMI lead, as these fancy high priced versions sold by some are not one iota better than types sold by Lidl or Aldi.

Tina: Yes, you could maybe give an update once tested out. I did mean to add that when you want to record anything from the Sky box (excluding certain Sky films which may be copy protected) make sure that when you power up the DVD/VCR combi you switch the input to AV2 by pressing the "INPUT SEL" button. (top right hand on remote control)

Well not had a lot of luck, still cant get the DVD to work, everything else is fine. I cant even get it to play a dvd, have taken the wires of everything and taken it out of the units, have all the stuff on the floor much easier to do like that, but I'm tired now so going to bed, it's all ready for me to try from scratch again tommoz, I feel like throwing it out of the window.

Tina: Press "menu" on your TV's remote and on the choice box that appears select "input source" then select AV1 and that switches the TV's input onto that scart socket.
If you find that you still cannot play a DVD try and play a video tape on the combi, but do not alter the TV's settings. If the video tape plays OK, then that suggests a fault in the DVD player side of the unit, but if a tape doesn't play either make sure you have the combi's AV1 scart socket to the TV's AV1 scart input.
Although this shouldnt really make any difference, but place the Sky box in standby whilst you are trying the DVD, but these are the correct connections for what you are using.

Yes the video has played tapes with no problems, it has always been the DVD that is not working, I need to find out if it's my fault or if the actual dvd player is at fault. I've spent hours on this thing. driving me nuts, will be easier now cos out of the unit so I can try things without too much hassle.

Tina: Well in that case it strongly suggests the DVD side of the unit is faulty, which of course is the side of combi's that usually develops a fault, DVD equipment being notorious for problems of one sort or another, the main thing is though that your connections are OK.
I did wonder when you had mentioned in your original posting that the DVD made a terrible noise when you tried to use it, insomuch if the noise you were meaning was mechanical, or that it was through the speakers? not that it really makes that much of a difference though whichever it was, as it indicates a fault.
I assume that this problem occurs with more than one disc being tried? as if it does then unfortunately the DVD drive is defective.

Am gutted think the DVD is faulty, wont let you play, it loads but thats about it, wont go any further, I will keep trying. I dont soppose you could recommend a CHEAP simple machine that will transfer video to disc.

Hi, is there anyone out there who could answer my question as am a bit thick when it comes to techno!
1. I have sky+ in the front room
2. I have multi room in the bedroom (which is not being used at the mo because the box is broken)
3. I have just bought a new TV with Freeview built in for the kitchen.
Question is......
Can i use the cable what is not being used in the bedroom anymore, into the freeview television in the kitchen?
or is this a stupid question?!?!?
All help would be appreciated, thank you

Lorraine: If you do indeed mean Freeview and not Freesat then the answer is no, as you are comparing a Satellite system that uses a dish to a Freeview system that uses a normal aerial, which of course you will require for satisfactory Freeview reception.
This being said though taking it that you do mean "Sky" multiroom, and not that you are just referring to feeding the Sky boxes RF2 output to analogue capable TV's in other rooms.
