Hi, I have a picture quality problem.
I have a sky dish connected to my SKY HD Box (2 separate cables) and a separate TV Ariel, also connected to the rear of the sky box using the Ariel in socket (At the moment I have only connected 1 TV to the system, but ultimately, I will be connecting up to 7). I have completely re wired the house using Triax TX100 Cable and would like to use a signal splitter to view either Sky or Freeview channels.
I then have a lead from RF output 2 (9v signal enabled from the sky box) which connects to an 8 way splitter UHF connector (Wolsey LTE IR Pass Distribution Amplifier). I have then taken a lead from one of the 8 outputs from the splitter and have run the cable to the back of the TV .
I also have a magic eye, which is working fine.
The picture quality is 100% when viewed as either a sky signal, using a stand alone HDMI cable linked directly from the Sky Box to the rear of the TV, or via the Ariel, which is connected via the 8 way signal splitter (described above). I have 180 + freeview channels and 40+ radio channels. And have re tuned the TV which has allocated channel 68 on the SKY Box.
My problem is that when I disconnect the HDMI cable (which I ultimately do not wish to use) I can find the SKY Chanlel on my remote, which is tuned to button 1, but the picture has a lot of noise on it. I have tried changing from Digital to Analogue using the remote, but it does not improve matters.
Does anyone have any suggestions? is it possible to re allocate the sky channel 68? It is so frustrating as each component is working individually, but when both aerials run via the splitter, I receive a very poor SKY signal, but Freeview is fine.
My post code is YO233NY and I am tuned to Emley Moor
Thank you

Paul: What you have reported could indicate that either your Sky boxes RF modulator is defective or there is something in your set up (self oscillation) that is causing interference to the analogue signal.
Try connecting a jumper lead directly from the Sky boxes RF1output and into your TV's aerial input socket then carrying out an analogue scan on the TV.
Further advice dependant on outcome.

Paul : In addition to that said, if the aforementioned direct coupling procedure did not make any difference to the situation then remove the aerial connection going into the Sky box and see if this does, as it all really a process of elimination.

I have a sky hd box in the lounge connected to a 50" plasma tv, we also have a tv in the bedroom fed via a coaxial cable which is connected to the HD box in the lounge, so we can watch Sky programmes etc via a magic eye. I now want to purchase a new tv with freeview built in for the bedroom, would the same coaxial cable set up work the same? At the moment I put the bedroom tv on No.6 on the remote and that shows the sky channels, but how would I do this on the new tv with built in freeview as aren't all channels preset? How would I watch sky?

Wendy: You will need a TV that has "the old" analogue and Freeview (digital).
The logical channel numbers are preset, yes. So 1 is BBC One etc. But that is for the digital side of the TV.
For sets that can receive digital and analogue there will be a button to switch between the two. Often this also allows one to change to the inputs (scart, HDMI etc).
You would store the Sky box under analogue channel number 1. Then whenever you wish to watch it change to analogue.
Just watch out and ensure your new TV has an analogue tuner! If it doesn't you could conceivably use an old VHS video recorder but this would perhaps be a bit of a messy solution.

Hi Dave, Yes I did ask a similar question a while ago but had forgotten to what the problem i had was. I did not think any tv's had analogue tuners in them now I thought all new tv's were digital? Do you know which tv's have both? Thanks

Wendy: I would think that some will still, although I don't know for certain.
I suggest you check whether the one you're looking at has analogue before you buy.
Or you might have another TV which you can swap it for such as the LG 42LS3400 mentioned previously.

Paul: Further to that said, if removing the aerial connection into the Sky box does kill the interference on the RF2's analogue output then change the RF output channel to C35 as this would appear "not" to clash with any Freeview channels you are liable to pick up from not only Emley Moor but also other stations within receiving range.
RF channel changing procedure on a Sky+HD box with the latest menu system.
(1) Press "services" then use the right arrow to navigate away from "Options" to "Settings" and press on same, "Picture" should now be highlighted.
(2) : On the remote control press: "0 - 1 - Select" and the "Set up" tab should be highlighted.
(3) : Use the right arrow button to scroll along the list to "RF out" where pressing on reveals the default settings menu enabling you to change them.
Please ensure that you save any changes made before exiting the menu system.

Dave Lindsay: hi
I have just purchased a freesat card from sky and I'm just trying to get it to work on my new freeview tv. The skybox is on the scart connection. The freeview is through the aerial socket. The Tv recognises both signal input. However when I use the sky buttons to view the menu it reverts to channel 6 on the TV which is ITV 2! What do I have to retune??
Thanks Jackie
