Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview

Changes to Freeview after Sky buys VTV channels

Changes to Freeview after Sky buys VTV channels
published on UK Free TV

Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.

Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.

This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.

Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

I subscribe to Virgin Cable and what do we get? Masses of repeats but they don't go back to the first series and episodes only to the current series. Often you can see it on a different channel either at the same time or a bit later.
We have to put up with hours of adverts each day (15 to 20 minutes per hour) and it's not particularly cheap.
It's the same old thing the rich are getting richer at the expense of the poor.

Perhaps everyone should cancel their subscriptions to Sky and use the money to put towards a good hobby or pass time or buy some really good books to read. This would send a message that they would not be able to ignore as it would threaten their massive profits. While people are content to sit and pay for and watch crap then that is all anyone will get and freeview will be swamped with even more of it. They want to fill the slot that will be left by the demise of C1 but I suspect they have gone for the cheapest option.

My coments on the proposed closure of channel one is unprintable. I have watched the content of all channels at different times on different channels! the fact is that the variety is not there.Unless one can afford a top price package & to make that cost effective I should have to sit in front of the TV 24/7. The cost of sky virgin bt is just not worth it unless one is obssesed by watching repeats of repeats.

Bally python: The responsibility is to the advertisers and shareholders.

if you leave your card in the machine you can get so many channels free, which is better than nothing.

Stevan: yeah, moan, moan.... If you had not made sure of continuous commission for your work, then sorry... I do know that quite a few 'famous names' found this, due to bad decisions and agents! unlike most, these guys just went back into work...

but as 'Bally python' says, go back to what you did *before* multi-channels' came about...

Go back 15 years, and they said SKY would never survive, with their massive debts...
its way too late now... even virgin is suffering, due those who just wont bother...

Stevan: But, economic theory says that consumers will find the cheapest way to get a product or service. You can't berate consumers for behaving as such.

What a shame! Have just finished watching 'Voyager' and have discovered that Channel One is closing down after having been bought by Sky. Rupert Murdoch is aiming to take over all newspapers TV and media. Eventually there will be no freeview worth watching - Freeview is a con that has been perpetrated on us so that we wont complain about TV going over from analogue to digital! How do you fight it? I dont know. Even the terrestrial channels are a load of rubbish - soaps and silly game shows.

Linda Fletcher: I'm sorry, but Freeview operates in a free market and if Sky wants to buy up channels and close them down it is perfectly able to do so.
