Digital UK today provided more dates for next year's final year of digital television switchovers.

Viewers in Kent and East Sussex (apart from Brighton and Hove, where switchover happens on 7th and 21st March) will first see their analogue BBC TWO service withdrawn on one of two dates:

Heathfield, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings transmitters and relays: 30th May 2012.

Dover, Bluebell Hill transmitters and relays: 13th June 2012.

The second stage, where all analogue services come to an end and full-power digital services, including Freeview HD start are:

Heathfield, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings transmitters and relays: 13th June 2012.

Dover, Bluebell Hill transmitters and relays: 27th June 2012.

And if you are someone who happens to live in Calais, France, it should be a lot easier to recieve transmissions from Kent region right?

Josh: No, it won't be any easier, as the new aerial panels on the Dover mast are only fitted on the three faces that point inland. This is already preventing people in France from receiving analogue signals.

Ex-pats in France shouldn't have any trouble receiving satellite transmissions from Astra 2D, but terrestrial is now unlikely to work.

Mike Dimmick: Howcome then France haven't taken any steps to try and restrict their terrestrial TV signals from reaching the Kent region of England?

Having reception problems from Heathfield @ present. Is there a current problem/upgrade happening or could it be my TV set?

Paul Ebans: The current weather conditions are predicted to give a fair chance of tropospheric ducting over the Heathfield reception area. This would explain why, if say Crystal Palace signals are traveling further than normal which could give interference on Mux1 (C34) or Mux2 (C29) from Heathfield. You could even be affected by transmitters in South Devon or the North of France. See the page on What is the inversion effect. Also see William Hepburn's Worldwide Tropospheric Ducting Forecasts at
