You MAY find that old equipment will no longer work - see TVs and boxes that do not support the 8k-mode

On Wednesday 22nd June 2011 will see the second stage of switchover, which provides the final Freeview configuration, including Freeview HD for all transmitters in this region.

I will probably be re-tuning a lot of TVs today, including 2 at my Grans house. Do we retune later in the day, or is it any time after 6am?

I'm personally hoping that with the boost in signal strength I will get the multiplex with Film 4 by the 22nd. I don't get multiplex D at the moment, fingers crossed I'll get that is the only set of channels I don't get the new multiplex ARQB. Not at the expense of any others though I hope...

David S.H.: You should already have a good signal for Multiplex D, but only if you installed a wideband aerial.

If you didn't, then yes, you will have to wait another two weeks.

Has anyone had problems receiving some BBC Channels after first stage switchover? I receive pictures from Blackhill transmitter in Central Scotland and after numerous attempts to retune automatically and manually, I still cannot receive BBC1, BBC2, BBC3 and BBC News. I have other BBC Channels and all the ITV ones and Ch 4 & 5. I have a Grundig GDT 1000 Freeview box. It is not listed as one that won't work after switchover. Any help would be welcome. DigitalUK said it was transmitter work that prevented a full retune during today but that was supposedly finished at 6pm

Kevin: I assume you performed a factory default reset prior to scanning. Yesterday I retuned a number of Freeview receivers; SEGs, LGs and Humax all trouble free but collecting a few extra channels on the 800 section. An old Thomson DVR took three attempts before successfully catching the BBC Channels you mention. I also noticed that the transmission on the 46 Mux is much stronger as of yesterday so if you are using an amplifier that may not be helping. Some BBC Radio Channels disappeared when Alba started transmitting but I notice they were back again early this morning. I think this was notified earlier. it's all a bit new so I guess reception may vary till after the 22nd at which time I trust things will be more stable. Hope this helps.

Kevin: Make sure you use the Full Retune (Default Setting, First Time Installation, Full Reset, 'virgin mode') option, to clear out the channel list completely. Some boxes don't understand that channels can move to an entirely new frequency and will not save changes to channels that already appear in the list.

A common problem is that the new signal levels are high enough to cause distortion in amplifiers (including the one in the box's tuner). If you have an amplifier or booster, try removing it or turning it down; if you don't, or that doesn't help, try adding an attenuator.

I'm afraid I can't find a manual for this Grundig box, so can't confirm whether it does or does not support the 8K mode. It dates from 2003, so it's possible that it doesn't.

I have a SAGEM DTR 94 HD Freesat box purchased Nov 10. Only from today have I been unable to get anything although it was ok until then. My husband died 5 weeks ago and this was an area I knew nothing about. Do I need to do a 'return to factory settings' sort of thing and will the instruction book tell me how to. Any info much appreciated. Postcode G200PD

Linda: From memory I think there is a " Reinstallation-Reset"
option on Sagem boxes. Try under Advance Box Settings in the Manual and Box Settings > Reset in the Sagem Screen Menu. Hope this helps.

Sadly, I've been recording the regional news programmes recently the end of last year and beginning of this year mainly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for news about DSO.

East Midlands Today/Central Tonight has had news about Nottingham.
Look East/Anglia Tonight has had news about Sudbury.
Midlands Today/Central Tonight has had news about The Wrekin/Bromsgrove/Lark Stoke/Ridge Hill.
Points West/The West Tonight has had news about Ridge Hill (HTV West).

But I have heard absolutely NOTHING about DSO on any dates for DSO at transmitters in Scotland on Reporting Scotland and STV News At Six.
Have I missed it?

If so,
Why is neither Scottish regional news programme reporting about Digital Switch-Over?
Don't they have a duty to remind their viewers about it in case they put their TV's on Wednesday morning and find they have lost all their channels and they don't know why and possibly end up calling an engineer out or buying a new TV?

Maggie: all muxes from Black Hill were off the air at the time you wrote, with Stage 2 of DSO. By this morning you should do a retune and all will be well.

Stuart O: Reporting Scotland has given extensive coverage of the DSO (which of course has happened in different parts of Scotland on different dates) and presentation has provided announcements about switchover for each transmitter group prior to switch off.
