BBC Two HD Channel to launch 26th March 2013

BBC Two HD will replace the existing BBC HD Channel and will be available subscription-free on all HD digital television platforms

BBC Two HD will replace the existing BBC HD Channel and will be
published on UK Free TV

As part of the DQF process of BBC cuts, the BBC HD channel is being replaced by BBC TWO HD. This will be a UK-wide service and will not have the occasional BBC Two opt-outs and presentation in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

BBC TWO HD will be 102 on Freeview HD, 169 on Sky HD and 109 on Freesat HD. The channel won't "HD auto swap" to 102 on Sky.

Janice Hadlow, Controller of BBC Two, said "BBC One HD has already proved to be highly valued by our audiences and I’m delighted that we’re able to follow this with the launch of BBC Two in HD. The launch of BBC Two HD will allow us to showcase more of our programmes at their very best – helping to highlight our commitment to high quality, engaging and ambitious programmes on BBC Two."

The BBC Two HD channel will be a simulcast network version of the BBC Two England schedule with a raft of new programmes available in HD for the first time including Paul Hollywood - Bread, The Fall, Science Britannica and Keeping Britain Alive as well as old programmes such as Mock The Week, QI and Springwatch.

The BBC HD channel launched in December 2007 and was the UK's first free-to-air, high-definition television channel. Since its launch, the BBC HD channel has broadcast a stand-alone schedule of BBC High Definition output from across the portfolio.

At last. It's a pitty they they don't HD autoswap as this makes HD much easier to use.

The BBC is still draging it's feet on HD. Its about time all areas were in HD. Very few programs are in surround sound. They still use stereo on F1 despite a 5.1 feed being available.

Tony Hill: I'm guessing when you say "62% of BBC viewing" you are referring to transmissions, not actual viewers.

Briantist: Yes, 62% of the BBC viewing (all channels) done by our household - myself and Mrs Hill was in HD, either live or recorded. I have many other statistics if they would be of any interest.

Briantist: I record our viewing to evaluate numerically what WE watch - it will be (I'm sure) significantly different from the BARB figures!

There is no ITV 1 anymore. It's back to ITV, sadly with an ident on SD for the first time ever, however if you still have a 4:3 TV like me, it chops off the logo and also those of ITV+1, ITV2, ITV3 & ITV4 yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!

(apart from the old 4:3 programmes like Rising Damp and early Frost & Morse).

I hate old 4:3 programmes on widescreen TVs, especially through HDMI ports. No way of stretching them out to fill the screen, and you're left with two black bars either side (Far worse than the other way around, in my opinion).

Quite a few US programmes are still in 4:3, which is very annoying.

Thank goodness all UK programmes are now in 16:9

The D.O.G. on ITV 1 is very annying, though we've had one on UTV for quite some time now.

D.O.G.S are pointless in this day of EPGs. I notice Sky have actually dropped theirs.
