UKTV's Drama to be on Freeview 20

Drama, which starts on 8 July 2013, will be on Freeview channel 20.

published on UK Free TV

Drama, the new channel from UKTV (see New channel coming to Freeview - Drama from 8 July) will cause a few number changes for Freeview homes.

If you use Top Up TV, you will find that Home will move to channel 54, and GOLD will shift up six places to 26.

This means there will be room for the new Drama channel at number 20 (contrary to expectations that it would displace Dave Ja Vu at 25).

UKTV's other channels Dave at 12, Really at 17 and Yesterday at 19 do not change.

Chris: Dependant on the model of TV you are referring to it might be the case that its tuners memory capacity has been exceeded whereby its unable to retain the channel when the set is powered off, therefore I would advise you to first of all carry out a "factory reset" then follow this by carrying out another auto tune.

By the way a factory reset is also known as "default setting" or "first time installation".

What HAVE I done? In a search (directed by the lady wife) for this 'Drama' channel which seemed absent from my 'set', I have just retuned my Sharp Aquos TV (with Freevew) here in Rossendale (BB4 (UF), and the results seem bizarre. Gone is the orderly BBC One = Channel 1 sequence of old, beloved by me and the TV papers.
What I have now are channels all starting somewhere in the '800s', with BBC 1 = 817, BBC 2 = 818, but then ITV = 870, Channel 4 is 876, with BBC News Channel at 823 - there seems NO sequence to it at all.
Undaunted, I retuned yet again - and they all moved, but not back to the BBC1 = 1, but just a few numbers away from the 'new' sequence, still in the '800s'.

Oh, what have I done, and how do I return to 'the simple life' where the Channels link to those in the TV 'papers', please?

RonC: RonC: The easiest way to resolve this problem is by carrying out a "factory reset" on your TV, this also known as "default setting" or sometimes "first time installation" and then "manually" tuning in each of the mux transmitters used by the station that covers your area, or at least the one normally received from.

However, although you appear to be located on the doorstep of the Newchurch PSB only transmitter its really a question of whether or not you normally receive ITV3? because if you do then you will not be receiving from this local transmitter but from the Winter Hill main station, and so can you confirm (or not) if you normally receive ITV3, as once this is known it will enable further advice to be given.

By the way, Drama is on the same multiplex as ITV3 and as such cannot be received from relay transmitters.

Hello JB38, Many thanks for this response. Yes, we have ITV3 (Lewis, Frost, etc.), so I guess it must be Winter Hill, as you say - in spite of the fact that I can see the Newchucrh hill-top from my window - clear 'line of sight'.

However, I have now managed (by using some kind of 'channel edit' on the TV's menu, to restore the old 'BBC1 = 1, BBC2 = 2, ITV = 3, etc - and I have now located 'Drama', so all is well there, too.

Thanks again: I think we are now sorted, but does the Winter Hill 'offering' have any special significance for us, do you think?

RonC: Pleased to see that you have managed to sort the problem out OK. But in answer to your latter question, not really! except by the fact that because its a full service station is able to offer the maximum number of programme channels, but which because of your proximity with respect to the local relay (fill in) transmitter I was unsure that you were able to receive in the first place, as such did not want to confuse the issue by providing channel number info not appropriate to your circumstances. However, and just purely for the record, should any further problems occur at any time on your Sharp TV use the "reset your receiver" option seen in the set up menu but quickly follow this by pressing the red button as soon you see it start automatically searching for channels as you want to select "manual search", this then followed by entering and scanning each of Winter Hills six mux channels "one at a time" and storing the results before moving onto the next mux number, this being the only way to guarantee that your TV tuners memory is not storing data from more than one station. Winter Hills channels being / 50 (BBC) - 59 (ITV1) - 54 (HD service) - 58 (ITV3 etc) - 49 (Pick TV etc) - 55 (Film 4 etc).

Many thanks indeed, JB38 - I shall do that, and 'nail it' for good, I trust.

Again, many thanks for your assistance.

having problems with the recordings I make on Drama freeview. none of the other channels does this. if I fast forward through the advts Drama will regularly stop playing. the tv and the freeview recorder have to be turned off as there is a large amount of crackling electric noises and no response from either tv or recorder. when I get back to the recording it plays well until the next set of adverts (possibly - as this doesn't always happen but it does happen frequently) it doesn't happen in the programmes only the adverts. help

I think the new tv drama channel is brilliant but on some tv sets it stops broadcasting at around midnight, yet not on my sky channel. Is this happening to anyone else??

little larko: I suspect that Drama has to go off the air for an hour at some point so that channel 25, Dave Ja Vue can use the capacity.

If UKTV didn't put Dave JV on for an hour each day, they would forefit channel 25 to another broadcaster.

This seems to happen at 2am.
