Can I use a ex-Sky box to receive aerial Freeview?
I am afraid not.
The satellite receivers cannot receive Freeview and vice-versa. Whilst the underlying technology is the same (DVB) the satellite receivers do not have the capacity to receive the DVB-T terrestrial transmissions, only the DVB-S satellite ones.

I am looking to buy a Humax freesat recorder. There is a satellite dish at my new address will I need to have more than one cable to enable me to connect to the dish

agnes: Yes, as any satellite device that can record (e.g: Freesat or Sky+) requires twin feeds, the other point being that if you only have one feed from the dish then it might only have an original single output LNB fitted and so this would require changing, preferably to a quad type as the price difference is minimal quad block kits being obtainable from numerous e-bay outlets for around £10.00 or so.
You can of course still use the Humax for normal Freesat reception or limited recording if you choose single feed operation when first setting it up, then once the extra cable is installed reset the box and carrying out a second installation.
By the way you will not lose anything you have recorded by doing this.

I am watching free channels through an old sky box connected to a comunal dish in social housing.i have every freeview channel plus more, exept i cannot watch Dave.any idea why? WF8

David: Dave is only available via satellite on Sky's subscription service (it isn't free-to-air via satellite). You can probably get it free-to-air on Freeview (terrestrial) in your area.

Can somebody answer me a questions without being too techinical please...
I have old sky box. No sattelite dish. I have several high quality aerials.. I havent tried to set it up as I don't know how.. But will it be a waste of time any way? Is a sattelite dish mandatory? Is there no other way around it?
Thnx

Sakina: A satellite box will only work with a dish system and nothing else with there being no alternatives to this, likewise the aerials you refer to only being of any use to a terrestrial receiver, meaning a Freeview TV or box.

yorky: A Sky+ box is purely for satellite reception purposes, terrestrial refers to reception of ground based signals such as from Freeview transmitters. However as far as your question is concerned, you cannot record (or playback) anything on a Sky+ box without having a subscription with Sky for the purposes of, do you have one?
