Can I use a ex-Sky box to receive aerial Freeview?

I am afraid not.

The satellite receivers cannot receive Freeview and vice-versa. Whilst the underlying technology is the same (DVB) the satellite receivers do not have the capacity to receive the DVB-T terrestrial transmissions, only the DVB-S satellite ones.

yorky: In that case will have blocked access to the recording and playback side of the Sky+ box when your expired or was cancelled, this done via an over air download into your viewing .
