To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Problem this evening on freeview, N15 4 postcode area.
I can only get BBC1, BBC2, BBC4, Red Button, E4+1, Dave, Pick, Really.
I've unplugged & plugged in again (aerial, freeview box). I use a booster box with scarts.
I've manually retuned too.
Any news or tips?

Rosamund Tomlin:

Please provide a full post code, the partial one you have given does not enable us to view the expected reception conditions at your location.

You should not have retuned as they will never return any of the suspect channels, akk it does is remove the tuning data for those channels you usually have.

Aerial amplifiers (boosters) do not use SCART connections, so what is that box? If it is an aerial amplifier then it will have one coaxial socket for the input from the aerial and at least one coaxial output to feed the TV set.

Only when yoiu give the requested full post code can we contributors make any meaningful suggestions.

Since the upgrade on the transmitter at wyke in Dorset we have our T V fuzzing and going off for about 3 seconds I have enquired with the chap who fitted the new Aerial but said its happening to a few house in our area so on recommendation I bought a 4 Filter which has made no difference, I have retuned no end of times and factory rest to try and rectify it, I put my old t V back on to make sure it was not the new T V but it was still doing it. Any one have any idea what else I could do. as I have spent a lot of money on this and have this problem.

Terry Reddington: Hi I have only just seen your reply after sending another message so sorry about that, I have checked all leads as well as the fitter did when he put up the new aerial, all connections are good and even with the 4 g filter it is still going off for around 3 seconds, we have nothing near the T V which could cause it to do this, But would like to say that it was NOT like it until the sign came up on the T V that we had to re tune our T V so since the signal was upgraded this has been happening ever since then, Many Thanks Terry

Terry Reddington: Hi I know I have been on here a few times but have tried all manor of ways to try and sort this out, when watching the TV on youview we do not get any problems with signal so we feel that its not the T V but the signal as since they changed it that's when it started, Its only the H D channels that breaks up, I have put on a 4g filter but it made no defence at all, I am going to ask the chap who set up the T V and put up a new Aerial to return and check that it is all as it should be, But after 3 calls to him he seems reluctant to call back as he feels he left it working and good as it could be, and I agree it was fine until they changed the Freeview signal.

Terry Reddington: Check your signal strength - it might be too high, especially if your using a YouView box, which is a humax under the bonnet. They are known for their sensitive tuners, and that, plus a new aerial, plus an upgrade to the transmitter, might be combining to just tip your signal strength over the threshold.
If its happening to more than one house in your road, then its not just you. So either the transmitter is at fault, or that your reception has changed in some way.

the good news that its easy to fix - just search for the page on this site called 'too much of a good thing', and that will guide you.

Hi

I'm on Hannington transmitter RG19 postcode and have never had a problem before, but today I noticed that Sony Crime Channel had suddenly become "Programmes resume at 4am". Having also heard a "you will need to retune" advert (but not really paying attention) I did a retune today.

According to all the freeview guides I have looked at online, Sony Crime channel should be on 40 but instead it is movies4men there. Also the guides say channel 60 should be Sony Crime Channel+1, but now on 60 it appears to be Sony Crime Channel (not +1) and starting at 4am. I am sure I had both Crime and Crime+1 last week.

Any idea what has happened and presumably Sony Crime Channel has all but disappeared off the airwaves unless you get up at 4am?

Thanks.

Llew: Sony swapped some of their channels around yesterday, resulting in Sony Crime now becoming an overnight placeholder on Freeview 60. It is still available full time on satellite currently.
