Hello,

I have a SKY dish, HD box and a giant bill every month ... and we also recieve FREEVIEW well.

We could manage without SKY except for SKY Sports 2 .. and the bill !!

Any suggestions would be valued.

ken sullivan: You cannot use an unpowered splitter with a satellite dish without consequences. This is because the receiver sends a voltage to the LNB to tell it which polarisation to use.

You need a feed (cable) from the dish for each receiver. Quad- and oct-LNBs are available from sources such as eBay.

ken sullivan: You cannot successfully split a cable used for satellite reception because the box sends instructions to the dishes LNB for polarity switching purposes, this being why satellite boxes requires a separate feed from the LNB for each input, Sky+ or a Freesat recorder requiring two feeds each because these devices have twin tuners.

You will have to change the LNB on the dish to a quad type which gives you four independent outputs, these being obtainable as a kit from numerous e-bay outlets for around £10.00 or so.

I currently subscribe to sky, and we have three boxes in the house, (all sky+ ones)..we are thinking about cancelling Sky and are wondering if we could still receive channels (freeview or something ?) on the sky boxes. Our tv's are capable of getting digital channels..but i DONT know how to acheive this... We live in Leighton Buzzard and its a terrible signal here, (which is why we resorted to Sky in the first place)..wonder if you can advise please.

Mouser 240: The only effect of cancelling your subscription is that your Sky+ boxes will revert to being standard non-recording / playback types, as Sky will disable access to this side of the box at around the same time as they do your ability to view dedicated package channels.

As far as channels are concerned, you will still be able to view the free channels exactly as before as nothing changes in this respect, you can actually check what you will be able to view simply by removing your card and checking through the programme list.

Jamie: Each of these four ports on the LNB are independent of each other and so it doesn't really matter which two you use as you will always have two spares that you could use should one ever go down.
