Malcolm miles: None of the local TV stations are on Freesat, only a handful are on Sky. Bay TV haven't announced that they will be and their Liverpool station isn't on Sky either.

I live in Port Talbot, so still on Swansea bay albeit the other side. I receive the full set of channels from Kilvey Hill. C29 signal shows as 54% strength and 100% quality. C23 has 74% strength and 100% quality.
However, C30 signal is fluctuating between zero and 25% strength and usually little to no quality. The Bay tv picture appears, breaks up and disappears. It sounds like a Norman Collier routine.
Are there plans to increase the signal strength or are the people on the 'wrong side' of the bay not meant to watch the 'Swansea channel'?
I ask because I'm wondering whether I need to adjust my aerial's orientation or is it just that the signal is weaker than the other channels and there is no more signal strength to be gained (no pun intended).

Huw Davies: Good Morning, Huw. Unfortunately the regulator, Ofcom, has with-held the radiation pattern for the Kilvey Hill Freeview transmitter for reasons known to itself and so we cannot tell whether the Bay TV output from Kilvey Hill has been restricted in an Easterly direction, but I suspect not, because I had read somewhere that residents of Port Talbot would be able to receive Bay TV. It could be worth experimenting by tuning into the Bay TV channel and then climbing up to your aerial and rotating it very very slightly whilst someone else watches the tv and shouts up to you once the signal has steadied. Here in Norwich, our local city Freeview tv channel transmits at only one-tenth of the power of most of the other 'main' multiplexes and so I need a 'booster' or 'signal amplifier to receive it, so you may wish to consider buying one of these specifically to amplify the incoming signal from Kilvey Hill just for Bay TV, although of course, such a booster will actually amplify the signal for all multiplexes and increase the signal strength for all of them. As long as your overall signal strength doesn't exceed, say 90%, you ought to be OK if you do buy one. Hope these suggestions will help, Richard in Norwich, Sunday 31st. July @ 10 a.m. approximately.

Yes, please, I am having trouble too. Still 404 error.

Also, not sure how to find Bay TV, as I have a Freeview box, and Channel 8 isn't listed there.

Deb: Hi, Deb. Firstly, you need to be absolutely certain that you are receiving your television signals from the Kilvey Hill transmitter, which is the one to the East-North-East of Swansea City centre. Your tv aerial needs to be pointing towards it. If your epg is not displaying a channel 8, then have you carried out a re-tune since Bay TV began in Swansea? It is best to first do a retune with the aerial lead disconnected from the tv. This is so that the tv 'forgets' its previous settings as well as any corrupted data stored in its memory. Then plug the aerial back in and carry out another retune. Both of these retunes should be the 'first-time installation' type of re-tune because the 'add channels' type of retune tend to be unreliable. Try all of the above and let us know how you get on. Richard, Norwich.
