See: Freeview reception - all about aerials

TV aerials are designed to receive certain groups of channels, for example a type "E" can receive on channels 35 though 68, and a "W" is a "wideband" aerial. This is different to a "high-gain" aerial. For more information can I suggest:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/analogue_tv/aerials.shtml

In the UK the main transmitters require the TV aerial to have it's "fins" horizontally, relay trasmitters require the aerial to be mounted with these fins vertically.

Both the type and position of aerials are designed to give the best possible reception with the least interference, and change from place-to-place around the UK

Terry r: A loft aerial is unlikely to provide a reliable Freeview service, especially at your location until later in 2012.

I would suggest you get a rooftop aerial. You shouldn't need anything exceptional if the aerial is mounted outside.

Terry r: If you use the Rowridge transmitter fit a group A type aerial for best gain over the frequencies in use. A good quality 18 element yagi should work ok unless you have any local obstructions in the signal path.

Terry r: A Yagi is a "traditional" type tv aerial. It is named after Dr. Hidetsuga Yagi who invented it in 1926 with Shintaro Uda. According to Wikipedia Dr. Yagi was a professor at Tohoku Imperial University in Japan.

I live in North Bristol BS37 6XA,I don't have an outdoor aerial as we have a sky dish but would like to have freeview in other rooms. Would an indoor aerial be any good?

P Shelley: No, an indoor aerial is not suitable for Freeview reception. You can attach more Freesat boxes to you dish, however.
