Another non-standard EPG dies: GuidePlus+ withdrawn from ITV1.

The GuidePlus+ system joins InView in being withdrawn - leaving some Bang and Olufsen, Philips, Pioneer, Panasonic, Sharp and Sony equipment without an electronic programme guide.

published on UK Free TV

From the end of the year, the GuidePlus+ system will no longer provide information to set-top boxes via the ITV1 teletext system.

If you have any of the devices listed below, you may no longer have the electronic programme guide functions.

If you use an ANALOGUE GuidePlus+ device and have access to British Eurosport on Sky's satellite subscription system, or bid tv on Freeview (multiplex A/SDN/COM4 - not public-service-only transmitters), you may be able to continue to use the service, but not all models are compatible.

Panasonic.Poor reliability with DVD recorder DMR-EZ25EB forced early replacement. Bought DMR-EX83EB and find it has the terrible Guide-Plus. It appears use of guide recording facility will be lost soon. Should I return unit immediatly while it qaulifies on 28 day rule?

That isn't on the list, John. The models affected seem to be a few years old.

So no, you're stuck with it.

But do join me in writing to Panasonic UK to tell them their EPG sucks and they'll get no more business from you till they junk Guide Plus.

@John

It's only products with the old analogue version of GuidePlus so you won't be affected.

Rather dumb about these things so have I understood correctly. Have Pioneer DV-630H which was using ITV1 analogue for Guide Plus EPG. I have Free Sky (Thomson DSI4212 box) and a Panasonic FV TV both of which receive Bid TV.

As far as I can see from what I've read so far There's nothing there that will let me get Guide+ into the 630H automatically? If so I'll stop messing around and buy something else.

Alex: Yes, you are correct. Can I suggest you consider a Freesat+ or Freesat+HD box?

Thanks Brian - that saves me hours of reading and plugging/unplugging scart leads.

Since I'm on cable my best option would seem to be to upgrade to Virgin V+ which gives 2 channel recording to hard disc.

Pioneer still usable with video+ - shame to pension off such a good piece of kit.

Alex: Yes, that would be the most sensible thing to do. V+ boxes work quite well.

I came here because my Panasonic TV stopped showing the adverts recently.
The EPG still works, though half the screen says Viera instead of those "really useful information sources".
Any idea what is going on.
