BBC M25 DAB project - new transmitter for High Wycombe area on air today
Good news for Buckinghamshire DAB users, there is now a BBC National DAB transmitter at Chepping Wycombe.
This is part of the BBC project to provide 99% coverage of the BBC DAB service within the M25, the orbital motorway around London, before the end of 2011.
This new DAB transmitter provides coverage into High Wycombe and Marlow for the first time and will help to improve coverage through Amersham, Maidenhead, Slough, Windsor, and the Chalfonts. It adds 72,000 people to the coverage of the network and improves reception for another 400,000 people.
The first transmitter in the London scheme was Wrotham, which launched in December, and the third will be Epping Green (for Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City) due on air later in the spring.

When are High (Chepping) Wycombe residents going to get a decent Freeview transmitter?
My sister lives in High Wycombe, and she says the coverage is abysmal.

It's wierd but since this transmitter has been turned on my good DAB coverage in Wycombe has been wiped out!
Tried retuning but to no avail. Would quite like my DAB back. :-(

The Pan: There is no requirement to retune, DAB is a single frequency network.

I think The Pan means Re-scan for the receivable networks available.

Brian Wright: There would be no point, the DAB service is a SINGLE FREQUENCY NETWORK which means it is the same broadcast on the same frequency at the same time from all transmitters.

I just tried to retune to see if it worked. Basically since the DAB transmitter at Chepping High Wycombe went live my reception has virtually gone in High Wycombe only. As soon as i drive away from the Tx (3 miles from it) reception is rock solid. I will check a different radio station tonight to see if it's a particular channel. Just seems strange!

The Pan: That doesn't sound right at all. On the BBC national service is transmitting from the new transmitter, so no other multiplex should have changed at all.

Sorry to hear the problem with Pan but I live in Marlow Bottom and have not had any DAB radio until this transmitter came on. Very pleased. Still have to wait till next April (2012) until the Marlow Bottom transmitter will let us have Freeview. Still it's a great digital start for us.
As far as I can get it is only the BBC Dab stations available.

Martin: I'm pleased to hear that.
The commercial DAB operators are not part of the BBC schedule, so I can't say when you will be able to receive those services.
