BBC Red button video now on Freesat
Freesat launched in May 2008.
The service has all of the BBC services that Freeview and Sky viewers have, but with a few exceptions.

From today, the BBC now provides the video streams for interactive sporting and entertainment events.
They can be found by tuning to a BBC television channel on Freesat and pressing the red button on the remote.

I could never understand why the interactive videos weren't on Freesat from the beginning.
You could always tune into the video streams with any type of satellite receiver.
But as there can be up to 6 sound channels with some streams,
you could not always select the correct sound channel with some receivers.
Also some of the news streams where 6 videos on the same screen,
so made it hard to concentrate on one program when 6 where being shown.
I have always been able to get all six streams plus the mixed news streams (I think about 8 streams) without any Sky-encrypted code!

Mark A.: The streams on the "BBC DSAT3" transponder, which is on Astra 2B has 11 defined streams, STREAM-0 (6680) to STREAM-6 (6886) and DEV-STRM-0 (6890) to DEV-STRM3 (6893).
They are used for the "OpenTV" system used to provide interactive services on the UK Sky system.
Some of these are full-screen video, some of them are quarter-screen or sixth-screen video.
This is because OpenTV provides support for crop and scaling use of the sections of video for interactive purposes.
No-one is ever supposed to see all six screen at once, they are intended to be used as six low resolution feeds.
Sorry about saying that the transponder was Sky-encrypted, I actually meant Sky-managed, as this transponder is only used for OpenTV content.

I have just bought a Humax Freesat box. I can get 99% of Tv but radio is poor. I have the text but no picture or sound except BBC 5 live. Is the dish slightly out of line?

Hugh: Yes, it could be. The Radio is mainly on the Astra 2A satellite, rather than 2D for all the other TV channels - apart from 5 Live.

I have an LG HD tv with Freeview in my bedroom. I also get Sky on it via the Sky HD box in my lounge. Altough the picture is good on the Freeview but when watching Sky there is a dark line that rolls up the screen and also a faint hissing noise from the sound. I find it very distracting and not very pleasant viewing. Can you tell me how I can get a better viewing experience when watching this TV.
I am not sure if it is a fault with the TV or a technical problem with the Sky box. My previous Tv was an Anaologue only TV but I had no problems wit hthe picture or sound on that. I would appreciate any help or advice.

Mary: You need to change the "RF channel" the Sky HD box uses. See the How do I change the RF output channel on a Sky Digibox? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice page.

Thank you very much for your advice but I would like to know which RF channel number I need to use as I am not sure. Are they different for different regions. We use the Winter Hill transmitter or the Pendle Forest transmitter in this area.
My kind regrds. Mary

Mary: This - Find out how to receive Freeview and Freeview HD | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice - shows the used channels, which leaves C32, C36, C37, C38, C41, C44, C46, C47, C50, C51, C52, C56, C63, C65 and C67 free.
I would probably try C51 or C37.
