ukfree.tv is managed by Brian Butterworth
We are independent and do not wish to be confused with http://www.freesatfromsky.com/ - for Brian Butterworth's CV, click here.
The site contains full information about both the Sky and non-Sky FTA satellite receivers, but we have found that the majority of people who are using free-to-air satellite have ex-contract Sky receivers. The problems with Solus cards have dealt with on the site in the past.
The BBC and ITV are planning an alternative Freesat service. As soon as they announce anything, I'll be happy to publish it.
Sky don't really like publicizing their free-to-air satellite service, and did not even have a website for the service until recently. (For example, they still have not updated the Sky News logo on their site). UK Free receives no payment from Sky for their advertisement, it's just there to help those people who can't get Freeview!
There is lots of information for Freesat people, for example.
These pages provide links to find local installers and (not-just-Sky) satellite shops:
As soon as high-street multiples (Argos, Dixons etc) start stocking DIY Freesat equipment, I hope to extend the list on the "current set-top boxes".
When the site launched back in July 2002, we decided that specialist systems (multi-dish or motorised) were covered much better elsewhere in specialist magazines. Also, list of channels and frequencies is covered by the excellent lyngsat.com.
The site was born out of experience gained from ONdigital's technical support failure, and so the site has a large Freeview section.
We always welcome contributions and are always interested in extending the depth of information.

Hi Brian, I live in Lincolnshire and bought a Samsung DVD Recorder a couple of months ago. However, I had to retune the unit on 30 March and only manaaged to find between 0 to 15 channels although I've carried out many autoscans since. I follow the autoscan instructions but to no avail. Please help. Many thanks, Wendy

Wendy Leak: You should, assuming you are using the Waltham transmitter, have a full set of Freeview services right now. You may need to have your aerial checked.

UK TV Transmitters
Have you made any progress with the second application ? As I said above, even Ofcom can`t see any reason why any of the patterns are witheld ! (S62LL)

Haslemere
I live in Halsemere and get my service from the Haslemere transmitter. This is switching over on 29th Feb and mid March. From the ukdigital web sit I see that it says that our service should be 100% but then by mid April it might be 68% to 80%. Does this mean that after the switchover the power of the transmitter is being reduced and therefore I wont really kmow until late in April if my set up is OK?

David: The power of the Haslemere transmitter does not change from the level set at switchover in March. What does happen in April, which causes the predicted deterioration in reliability of reception of the Haslemere signal is the introduction of high power working at Crystal Palace and Rowridge on the same frequencies as are used at Haselmere. As you say, you won't really know how badly your reception is affected (if at all) until these high power COM muxes are switched on on 18th April 2012. It is worth mentioning that you are predicted to have good reception from Midhurst on all six muxes, since Haslemere is a PSB only/Freeview Light transmitter you might prefer to have an aerial installed for Midhurst after switchover.

My digital TV receives most Freeview channels, but not channels 11 and 19. How can I receive them? The recent retuning is not relevanr, as my problem was before this.
