Boxes that do not support both 2k and 8k modes

Some boxes are having problems during switchover supporting both modes at the same times:

  • Sharp TU-R160H
  • Humax 9200T
  • Thomson DTi 1000

The workaround appears to be to add the "8k" channel manually (C62 for Selkirk, for example) and then to do this procedure after switchover is complete: My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4, Channel 4+1, no sound on ITV3 or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002

This is on top of the boxes that could not cope with the changes to the Network Information Table (NIT): Daewoo DS608P, Labgear DTT100, Triax DVB 2000T, Portland DP100 and these VCR/STBs: Daewoo SV900, Bush IDVCR01

Simon: Waltham Mux 2 simply *moved* to C31. It hasn't yet changed mode - still in 2K mode. Please see Single Frequency Interference for help.

The PVR-9200T has an RF output. Check what this is set to - it defaults to C36 but you might have moved it to something else. If you've done a Default Setting, it will have moved back to C36. When the box is off it seems to have a big notch cutting out various channels around C36, whatever frequency you've set it to - causes me a big problem with my Freeview TV on Crystal Palace Mux A and Mux C.

The most recent firmware, 1.00.23, for the 9200T clears all channels before doing an Automatic Search (or, rather, the search results are stored separately, then they replace the previous set when you press Save). This version was released in May last year; Humax recommend resetting to defaults after installing it. It has been broadcast several times, so you should already have it as long as you've left the box in standby overnight.

If you weren't leaving it in standby because it took a long time for the EPG to fill up, this version also fixes that problem - EPG data is now saved to the hard drive when you put it in standby.

For manual update instructions see
Welcome to HUMAX [UK]
- note you will need a computer with a legacy serial port (RS232) and compatible cable.

I have 1.00.23 and it was indeed set to C36. Are you suggesting I should change the RF output to a different channel? I've changed to other channels and undertaken a default setting but it still will not pick up anything on C31.

Any other ideas?

I see that the Thomson DTI 1000 has problems supporting 2k and 8k at the same time. I have a somewhat unusual arrangement with a one aerial pointed at Black Hill main transmitter and a second aerial for my kitchen TV pointed at a local relay. I have been given a Thomson box, which I plan to use in the kitchen. Am I correct in assuming that after switchover all channels will be 8k and this box should work okay?

Simon - I think you need to ask on the page for the transmitter you are using. Presumably some changes as the area switches off Analogue!

Derrick: The spec always had 2K and 8K modes, but Sanyo only implemented the 2K mode. Try contacting them via http://uk.sanyo.com/Contact-Us/Contact/ You can still use the TV as a TV, but you will need an external Freeview box. Again, if you complain, Sanyo may provide one.

The Grundig GDT1000 STB doesn't seem to work properly with 8K as it seems the software defaults to using 2K when storing even though the hardware appears to support 8K when manually tuning, my transmitter has switched to digital only and the box is now useless, shame I hate throwing working electronics away!
