Upgrading from Sky to Freesat
If you have an existing Sky or fSfS (Freesat from Sky) installation and want to go to upgrade to Freesat, it is a simple process.
First, buy the Freesat box from a Argos, Curry.digital, Comet, John Lewes or your local independent shop:
In the box you will find the Freesat box:
Also included will be a remote control, and this model also comes with a SCART cable, a HDMI cable and a stereo-with-composite cable. Unpack the ones you need:
You old Sky box looks like this:
Unplug the mains first from the Sky box, then pull out the SCART (or SCARTs) and then unscrew the connection to the satellite dish.
Remove the Sky box and fit the Freesat box. Reconnect the satellite cable (take care as to not damage the connection) and then the SCART and finally connect the mains power:
The box will look like this:
The box also contains the manual, which has full installation instructions. Finally fit the batteries into the remote control.
The TV screen first displays the box's logo
The first set-up screen allows you to select the TV type, widescreen mode and resolution:
Next the box checks for the satellite signal:
Then there is a check for updated software:
Then you enter your postcode and the box checks it:
The next step is a scan for channels. This takes about 30 seconds:
And that's it. You can now view channels, like 108 for BBC HD:
Or press the GUIDE button for the EPG:

Help needed please. . .
I live on an island off the west coast of Scotland and I recently unsubscribed to Sky+ as it was costing the earth and just watching the free channels via my Sky+ box.
Had a power cut today and the box has now gone into standby and won't free itself. Tried rebooting and reinstalling but just goes back to red light and blue screen.
If I was to go to Argos (180 mile round trip) and buy a freesat box with hard drive, would I be able to install it myself and would it work? I am just a girly who doesn't know much about this stuff but who is lost without the TV and radio. . .

Jeana: Yes, see Upgrading from Sky+HD to Freesat+HD | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .
I would probably give "Method 3" on the What can my do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice page a go first.

I have recently cancelled my Sky subscription. I was able to view Sky in another room using the aerial ports. Can I use the same aerial port to beam the Freesat channel I am watching into another room?

Playbus: No, but you can attach a second Freesat box to your dish via a satellite-grade cable. You can then watch any channel you like on the second set in full quality.

My Dad has Freesat coming through a community arial. We bought him a Freeview + box but we don't seem to be able to get Freesat and Freeview at the same time. One of them says 'no signal'. Is there a way of connecting the TV, Freeview box and Freesat cable so he can view everything without unplugging cables?

Doonie: You can't attach Freeview equipment to a dish. You need a FreeSAT+ box.

Thanks Briantist. So - just to clarify - we can't use the Freeview box alongside freesat that is coming through the cable? do we really need another box to view both?!

Doonie: You can use FreeVIEW and FreeSAT at the same time, but you need a aerial for the former and a dish for the latter.
