BBC - 60 new DAB transmitters in 2011
The BBC Trust's Public Purpose Remits require that the BBC will improve DAB coverage, to meet the requirements of the Digital Economy Act and other expectations.
To improve the national coverage by five percentage points will require the provision of 60 new DAB transmitter sites.
It should be noted that there are diminishing returns for these new transmitter sites - a large number of smaller transmitters are required to fill in the coverage gaps.

J.M. Hunter: BBC National DAB service will improve at some point this year. Your local BBC radio station is dependent on the local commercial multiplex operator, and is not under BBC control.

J.M. Hunter: Sunderland Hendon is on the list of BBC national DAB transmitters to be opened before the end of 2011.
BBC Radio Newcastle coverage in Seaham will be subject to a funding agreement for the Tyne & Wear multiplex.

We get good reception in Scone, near Perth, of the BBC national and Commercial national multiplexes from Kirkton Mailer transmitter just using the trailing wire aerial on the set. We get no reception for BBC Scotland or the other 11B channels that are also broadcast from Kirkton Mailer. I had thought about changing fully to digital since analogue reception is not good (In the garden I can change channels by moving my body without touching the radio!). I won't change if I can't get Radio Scotland.

The proposal for the Tayside multiplex is here:

However the rollout of the new transmitters is probably 2-3 years away.

Thanks. It looks we are a speck of poor reception in the midst of a robust indoor reception area. I do find it puzzling that we can get the national multiplexes but not the local one when they all use the same transmitter. But perhaps it's different transmitters or aerials at the same location.

sharealam: This is much as you might expect - the signals are coming from different transmitters and moving the aerial on the receiver to a higher location or to a window (rather than though a wall) will increase the strength of the signals.
