michael:
Sounds like it could be a problem with the SCART connection.
Have you tried connecting your Video or DVD recorder to the same SCART socket on your TV.
If that works then your TV and SCART cable are ok.
If not there could be a bad connection or broken wire in the cable or TV.
If TV with video ok, then there may be a bad solder joint between the SCART socket and PCB (printed circuit board) in your freeview box.
See if you get sound while pushing the plug up, down (to push the bad connection on the socket to the PCB.)

Just read that the boc is OK with other telly,
where you using the same cable.
If yes then box and cable ok, so check that contacts on plug OK.
If contacts are luse, bend them for tighter fit and clean them by scraping them with a screwdriver.

Ihave a DTV with USB input for recording DTV can I use RFout on my HD set up box to record channels that my roof top ariel cannot find. The USB will only record when USB/DTV is the source but the HD set up box will only function when HDMI or scart/ext is source. Thanks

ken thurlow: The very fact of you stating that you don't want anything complex would instantly suggest to me that you would be better off buying a twin tuner Freeview PVR for recording and playing back TV programmes, these being extremely "simple to operate", and the twin tuner aspect meaning the ability to record two separate programmes at the same time, should this be required!
As far as playing DVD's is concerned, you can get a reasonable quality device for about £30 / £40 from lots of sources, Philips players usually being very reliable!
The using of two separate devices keeps it simple, and with the combined cost of a DVD player and PVR being on average less than the cost of the type of machine you are thinking about, that is if you are thinking along the lines of purchasing something that will last.

Rea: Have you any idea where you are supposed to be receiving your TV from? as none of these channels you have mentioned match any of the possibilities seen on the trade predictor for reception at the given post code area, your local Dumfries transmitter being on Ch43 - 46 - 50, the latter used for HD.
The other main station Caldbeck, being on Ch 25 - 28 - 30(HD)
You should try carrying out a manual tune on Ch25 and see what comes up, if nothing try the same but on Ch43.

Hi.
I recently moved to Gibraltar and brought our Panasonic Viera with us. Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to pick up signal out here even with a digi box linked via scart lead, although 2 other families in our block brought their tv's and they work perfectly. Just wonderd if anyone knew why or what we can try?
much appreciated...

my mum recently had an aerial done, now she recieves west mids news NOT east mids news. the enginneer said its pointing to the sutton coldfield transmitter (cos that was the strongest signal) and assured her that after the switchover she would get east mids news!? right or wrong?
