I have a Humax freeview HDR-FOX TR2. It is delivering a picture in black-and-white only. The set up instructions are vague and the troubleshooting section makes no mention of this problem. The guy at Humax help centre said I would probably need an 'adaptor', but was unable to be more precise. I went back to the shop from which I purchased it, but they have had a reorganization and no longer have a contractor for call outs for this kind of problem (despite assuring me it was available when I bought the product). I read on a discussion site that sometimes the b & w problem can be solved by switching the TV output to RGB. But I can't find any options relating to RGB on the configuration menu ... Any help appreciated!

Hello - I have recently had Virgin removed in favour of freeview, however the man who took away the virgin box advised my wife that we could use the cable the went into the back of their box so long as we put a male adapter on the end. I have done this but when doing an 'initial setup' (through a freeview box and i have tried a television with built in freeview) it does not pick up any channels at all. Please help :-)

Gareth: You *can* use the cable, but only with a DVB-C receiver, not a Freeview (DVB-T) box.
Such a receiver is DVB-C Recorder DreamBox DM600-C black: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics .
A limited number of television sets support DVB-C, but not that many.
You only get the BBC channels, plus ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 via this method, not the full Freeview lineup.

Pablo Nerudaata: This problem is usually caused by setting the "video output" to "S-video" rather than "RGB".
If the setting *IS* on RGB, then I would swap the SCART cable out for a new one.

Pablo Nerudaata:
Press Menu on the remote control.
Select the Settings option.
Select the Video option.
Select the TV SCART option.
You will then be able to choose,
CVBS
S-Video
RGB.

Many thanks to Briantist and NottsUK for your suggestions. Unfortunately, the setting IS on RGB. Replacing the Scart might be a good idea but the cable is linked through a wall (i.e., to a wall-mounted TV).
Mmm... it said in th shop: 'Easy to install' :)

Hi again :)
Since my previous 2 comments about not being able to receive any channels from Tacolneston on tp 68 i suddenly seem to be able to get perfect signal and channels first thing in the morning (7am on)which is great when i have just come off a night shift but when i wake up at 3pm there is no signal again and this persists until the following morning. I live on the edge of the transmission area (postcode NR118BJ Mundesley right on the seaside) and am wondering if you might have an idea whats going on. Im really getting frustrated now. What could the reason be as to getting signal in the morning and nothing mid afternoon onwards. Thanks :)
