What price for an aerial installation?
In responses to the guideline I posted about how much having a new aerial fitted should cost, Ian Grice posted: "£40-£50? Every aerial fitter I contacted wants at least £150+VAT considering you can get a class 3 aerial for under £10 and a class 2 for under £15 and cable is 40p a metre why are they charging so much for 30 minutes work?"
OK, for some places putting up a TV aerial is hard work, such as multi-story properties. As many people will simply be exchanging a Group A, B, C/D, E or K aerial for a wideband type, often without changing the supporting pole or cable, a high price cannot be justified.
I am concerned that some companies will exploit vulnerable groups (such as the elderly).
So, I what prices have you been quoted for aerial installations? What price have you paid for installation?
Do you know of any companies to avoid? Do you know of any companies that are good value for money?
Or do you work for a great aerial installation company?

There getting some stick on here Action, mined you I have followed up on some of there work and they are a bit of rip off merchants, the firm that are screwing our trade up at the moment are AVC there should be some kind of monopolies laws brought out, they send people with no experience on a few days training course and send them out to do a job that takes years to learn properly, some of the work they do is appalling, and when there contract is finished they will leave all this poor work for us to put right, the BBc should have spread the work around the established fitters, but like always in big busyness someone will have taken a back hander. Yes sorry brian i might have over reacted , i have never seen bad work by action aerials but what i have seen is action aerials fitting aerials that are a bit over the top, say an area that will give a good 62 dbuv of an rx12 aerial they fit something like a unix52 on a 1 1/4 inch pole and then charge over the odds this is the problem a lot of riggers have with them the other problem we have with them is when they try to pass themself off as a local firm

Tom - YEP AVC - utter night mare - goverment sponcered cowboy scheme what an absolout Facking disaster their wark is
Sorry but £40 paid by these people who are contacted by letter is £40 too much - they haven't a clue
if you work for AVC and have had a past trade as an aerial installer I apologise - if you do know what you are doing
BUT - the work I have seen is disatourous
most of the guys / jobs ive seen are on the front of houses 12" t and k brackets huge aerials on 6' masts
What happened to using a chimney - oh apparently my public liability insurance doesn't cover me I was told by one 18 year old with 2 weeks training under his belt - the bloody transmitter was 2 roads away - the woman even came out and pointed an aerial out across the road and said she hoped hers didn't look like that
well Id gone by the time this poor customer would have spotted a HUGE aerial directly above her front door (bird craps going to be lovely there)
Totally disgusted by them
One guy was told h is aerial was fine - group A on Sheffield which is going to be wide band cant get anything now sir but when they switch (power up it said on the invoice left ) everything will be ticty boo -- didn't say anything about the water pissing through his cable
im sorry - that has really hit a nerve and TOM - I TOTALLY agree
Mazbar
Action what a rip off - theres a fair price or one where you have a customers arm screwed up their backs - they charge Rolls Royce prices for Ford Fiesta jobs

Kb have a nice cup of tea and a sit down they make my blood boil too but if you let it get to you the stress will kill you. What you should do when you see these aerials in the wrong place put a letter through the letter box explaining that they could have a far neater job done for a reasonable price, dont knock as most people find this very offputing. Ps went to a job today 9" wall bracket on Chimney held up with 2 bolts yes it was 8 pots but 1 lashing still went around ok at least i got a job and the customer got a very good job done.

One more point this AVC contract reminds me of the sky contract they handed to another bunch of idiots called cobra, all sorts of things went of there, they even set someone on who I sacked for trying it on with female customers, they did not last long,we were subbies to sky and cobra wanted us to do sky fits for less than half the money sky gave us.
