If you are accustomed to watching your television from satellite, Sky+ is almost worrying familiar. The award-winning remote control has some new buttons, there are a few new blue menus, and where you may have used the auto-view facility to plan your viewing in advance, you can now press a different red button and the programme is recorded for you.

Sky+ is inexpensive to purchase (by comparison), and currently requires a monthly subscription, and a working satellite connection and telephone line to function. The boxes are very reliable and support all the usual interactive services, and are the only devices that can be used with subscription channels.

Simple to use and fully supported by Skys customer helpline, single programmes or whole series can be recorded. Watching a recording whilst making two others is quite normal, combined with series links and the ability to place bookmarks puts you in full control.

You can pause and rewind live TV, forward and rewind at up to 30 times normal speed and copy programmes to a connected VCR too.

Andy - No - Sky disable the record - pause play - facility, on these Plus receivers when subscriptions are terminated.

I have sky + HD. I have just bought a normal Sky HD box. I have plugged it in my TV to check it works. It says no signal being recieved. Is this because I have sky + set up or could box be broken?

cathy bell: If you are referring to switching the box back on again after it has been unpowered for a few hours then are you leaving it long enough to reset itself? as some Sky+ HD boxes can take 3 or 4 minutes before the orange indicator will turn to green.
