According to the Guardian, "Freesat has passed the 2 million customer mark".

Also of note is this claim:

"Freesat's customer research claims that "a record 47% of its customers have come from Sky households so far in 2011". The company added that it is continuing to see a "steady increase" in Sky defectors over time.

In addition:

Freesat says gross retail sales are almost £1bn and it is the fastest-growing UK television platform. "We launched three years ago and in that short time have quickly established ourselves as a real challenger and genuine alternative to pay-TV," said the Freesat managing director, Emma Scott.

Kate - Don't really know if you can really equate "Customers" as with "Sales" when it's a non subscription service as against Satellite or Cable subscription services. Many household will have more than one receiver in all these services. I suppose what is remarkable is the recorded sales since this service commenced.

Kate - You could also pose this question When is a satellite receiver "Free" to the customer on a subscription service, when it's functionality is downgraded on ceasing subscription?

Interesting spin...

2 million unit sales = 2 million customers!!!

Does that observation deserve a ban... accurate unbiased titles would not require comment ... :o)

What's your beef, Kate? - Two million units have been sold - that makes 2 million purchasers (i.e. customers) - as it is likely that there would be more than one viewer at each installed location I would say that the number of viewers of FreeSat would be more than the 2 million 'customers' that have been claimed - a bit on an *under-estimate*, wouldn't you say - don't forget that the article is a quote from a daily newspaper on a subject of interest to the users of this website - whether you believe the original source or not, don't knock this website for 'bias' when it is freely reporting what has been printed elsewhere.
