Channel 5 +1 launches, 5* and 5USA come to Freesat
As we reported 5* and 5USA coming to Freesat by Christmas, Channel 5 has now provided the full complement of channels to all of the satellite platforms.
You can now view Channel 5 +1 on Sky 177 and Freesat 128.
You can also watch 5* on Sky 176 without a viewing card, and Freesat 131. On Sky 5* +1 has moved to 236 (was 177), and is now on Freesat 132.
The 5USA channel is now free on Sky at 174, and Freesat 129, with 5USA +1 on Sky 175 and Freesat 130.
Channel 5 +1 is now also on Freeview 44, with Channel 5 HD coming to Freeview HD in the coming months.

It is on 44 from Emley Moor I assume national.
Of course the mess of the program numbers order gets worse and worse on Freeview and Freesat only slightly better or maybe not both a mess.
Is Sky any better? They usualy better technicaly than these two having standard boxes and control.

This is great news! All we need now is for Channel 5 HD to be on Freesat and Freeview and then Channel 5 as a whole can be considered platform neutral. I wonder how long it will be until Channel 5's deal with Sky ends so that Channel 5 HD can be made available on Freesat?

The reply I got on Ch5 HD from Freesat was wishy washy.
From Ch5 I got that they want to be on Freesat, so I wonder if problem lies with Freesat who need to wake up.

Jacquie: The channel 5 channels etc used to be on the satellite Astra 2A that covers most of Europe. Because of that they were encrypted and could only be seen with a SKY receiver. These channels are now clear with no encryption and have moved to the new satellite Astra 1N and they only cover the UK. Because of the move, the 5 channels on Astra 2A have now been switched off. I doubt if you will be able to pick them up now as far away as Greece.

Probably does not matter with Freesat Dave, but certainly agree with you with Freeview.
Really can't understand them too because of iPlayer and Demand TV being pushed and the Recorders with hard drives in too.
I see no need for the +1 hour.
Only reason I can think of, but seems a bit silly, is for the big broadcasters to keep smaller rivals off Freeview.

I've just bought my Mum a new TV that has Freeview HD integral.
There doesn't seem that much that's HD though. I only see BBC HD, BBC 1 HD, ITV1 HD.
Why isn't there a Channel 4 HD, and why do Sky still seem to have the monopoly on all the HD channels?
Even Freesat only has a limited number of HD channels. Is this likely to change?

Freesat has BBC1, BBC HD (thought to become BBC2 in the future), ITV1, CH4 and a Japanese News Channel.
Ch 5 want to be on Freesat but Freesat not seem to know that.
