What price for an aerial installation?

What prices have you been quoted and paid for an aerial install
published on UK Free TV

In responses to the guideline I posted about how much having a new aerial fitted should cost, Ian Grice posted: "£40-£50? Every aerial fitter I contacted wants at least £150+VAT considering you can get a class 3 aerial for under £10 and a class 2 for under £15 and cable is 40p a metre why are they charging so much for 30 minutes work?"

OK, for some places putting up a TV aerial is hard work, such as multi-story properties. As many people will simply be exchanging a Group A, B, C/D, E or K aerial for a wideband type, often without changing the supporting pole or cable, a high price cannot be justified.

I am concerned that some companies will exploit vulnerable groups (such as the elderly).

So, I what prices have you been quoted for aerial installations? What price have you paid for installation?

Do you know of any companies to avoid? Do you know of any companies that are good value for money?

Or do you work for a great aerial installation company?

I only paid Steve because i had always used the company from 1976 and felt i had to

I did complain at a later date and got £100 refund so that was something but the trust between myself and the company has gone and theirs no going back

JB38 - Phillips HD Freeview recorder Model HDT8520/05. I am putting the main aerial into the freeview box and then the scart from freeview box into scart 1 as i have always done previously, it just says it doesn't recognise a signal. Thank you.

Lesley - are you sure you are seeing the Freeview recorder on the TV, not the TV itself saying no signal because you have not connected it to the aerial?

Steve P - I think I have figured out the problem, I need a HDMI lead instead of a scart lead ???????????? My friend used it with a HDMI and it worked so I will purchase one and give it a go, if not I will return the box.

Surprised it will not work with the SCART. Might need to be told to? Ask suppliers or of all else fails RTFM?

Or phone mfrs help line?

7.4 on P35 - how to use SCART
Connect your HD recorder to the mains and wait until your HD recorder wakes up (First Install appears on the front-panel display).
Press the V-Out button on the front panel twice. AUX SCART now appears on the front-panel display and the Welcome screen appears on your TV.
See section 3.3, Installing your HD recorder, on page 11 for instructions on completing the first installation setup from step 3.

Steve P - I would RTFM if it came with one, been online and looked and it says nothing apart from the aerial, which is why I asked if I needed it replacing, however after all my asking I was correct I have purchased a HDMI lead and it is working.

Lesley - It certainly should have come with a manual - but you can download the one I found online.

Which explains how to use ut without an HDMI lead - but better with. Glad all sorted.
