German TV channels are on the Astra 1 satellites at 19.2E, and are owned by SES Astra of Luxembourg.

UK digital switchover has occurred on satellite - all UK services are digital and are at 28.2E (on Astra 2A, 2B and 2D satellites).

The changeover from analogue terrestrial to Freeview is completely independent of both of these services, and is a decision of the German TV companies.

Hi,
Before going any further I must confess to not knowing a great deal about Sat.Tv. My mother in Loughton Essex joined SKY many years ago and had a package to pick up RTL germany.Everything was fine up to a few months ago when she lost RTL.(She had an old Philips receiver as well as the SKY box)We have scanned looking for RTL on numerous occasions but to no avail. We can get RTL2 and some other foreign channels but not RTL which is the one she watches(or used to watch)Does she need a new box-possibly the old one is analogue .Can you suggest one. Will the dish need changing? Has RTL started to use a new satellite.Help would be appreciated.Thanks.

Mike: You just need a "generic" (rather than Freesat branded, or Sky-branded) digital satellite receiver if you want to watch the channels.

However RTL Deutschland is still being broadcast on transponder 1 at 19.2 east.

Reception of German Satellite channels in the UK.

My wife (who is Swiss)likes to watch the German channels, so when the closure of Analogue transmissions from Astra at 19.2 was announced I had to act.

I live in Grantham, Lincolnshire so purchased a cheap 60cm Sky dish with Quad LNB and a Philux FTA receiver. Total cost (including delivery) £70.00. Installation (using the existing cable run)took about 1 hour including tuning. Obviously if you want the HD channels a more sophisticated receiver and card would be required.

Glad to answer any questions

Nigel

I have just got a new LED TV and need to connect it with a DVD recorder and a free to air satellite receiver for foreign stations. I cannot find a diagram for this set up. I do not have sky or a freeview box as I do not need these. The diagram in the TV manual suggests that the signal goes via the satellite receiver but I think it is imagining this to be a sky box or such like. Please can you point me to a relevant setup diagram or advise me?

Lesley: You need to put the satellite signal into the satellite receiver, and then you will normally connect the DVD recorder to the TV set using an HDMI cable.

If there is an HDMI output on the satellite box AND an HDMI input on the DVD recorder, then use an HDMI cable between them.

If there isn't, you will need to use a SCART cable to connect the satellite receiver to the DVD recorder.

Hi folks,i live 10 miles from glasgow,i have a fixed dish Freesat installation for my pvr. I also have a spare Humax hdr that i want to put into use to receive the 19.2e/13e satellites. Is my dish big/good enough to simply add another LNB or two and fit a disecq switch in order to receive these satellites up here in scotland. I understand the signal for these euro satellites gets weaker further north you are in the uk. Thanks in advance

Aerial mounted high on chimney stack -
reception on both ITV1 and Channel4 has gone welsh on us in the last couple of days -
was good until then. Has there been any changes to transmissions?

Richard: The ANALOGUE services on Astra 1 (at 19.2 East) are closing.

If you have an analogue receiver, you will need to recycle it and get yourself a free-to-air "generic" digital satellite receiver.

If you already use a digital satellite receiver, you need to do nothing at all.
