You need just TWO SCART leads:

- one from the SCART on the TV marked (1) or (RGB) connected to the Sky+ box's SCART labelled "TV"

- one from the SCART on the Sky+ box marked "VCR" to the first SCART connector on the DVD/VCR combo.

You can then view the stuff from the DVD by either pressing "PLAY" or putting the Sky+ box into Standby mode.

John Griffin: Although you have said that only one scart socket is available on each device but doesn't the TV also have an HDMI socket? the only reason for asking this being that there isn't much point in having a Sky HD box unless it has, and if it does then couple the Sky+ HD box into the TV using an HDMI lead, as this would then leave the TV's scart socket free for the DVD player.

However if the TV doesn't have an HDMI socket then you will require to purchase a "selectable" two way scart splitter, using same as a combiner rather than splitter, with the DVD connected into one socket and the Sky box into the other, the single common scart going to the TV.

I want to buy a DCD/VCR recorder HD combo - is this possible ?. The ones that I have looked at have a Freeview with them & I don't want this. Is it possible to use that plus Sky & 'ignore' the Freeview ?

Jon: All DVD/VCR combo's have had Freeview as standard for quite a number of years now, but if you purchase one of these you dont actually require to record from its built in Freeview tuner as you simply select it to record from its external input via its "input selector" menu, this input being connected to the Sky box.

You will also be able to play back any VHS tapes you have as well as any DVD's, so up to a point you have the best of all worlds.

Hope you can help.

I am trying to connect my Bush VCR to my tv & Sky+ box, to replace my old samsung vcr which has recently died. However, despite setting up exactly as the old vcr was, it is not recording - only getting playback.

Sky+ is connected to tv via a scart lead, & vcr is being run thru a scart splitter (also thru my tv) along with a dvd player.

Any thoughts?

I'm pulling my hair out here!

sharon: The method used to couple these various devices together depends on the number of scart sockets your TV is fitted with, is it one or two? and likewise is your Sky+ box a standard type also fitted with two scart sockets?

I have a Panasonic tv with 1 scart, 4 hdmi and 2 usb sockets. I want to connect it to a sky+ box with just 2 scarts, and a dvd/vcr with 2 scarts, how can I connect them so that I can also record?

BG: You will have to purchase a two way switchable scart selector box and you connect its common output into your TV's single scart socket.

You then connect one of the selector boxes scart sockets into the Sky boxes AV1 (maybe marked TV) using a scart cable, and then the second scart socket on the selector box into the DVD / VCR's AVI scart socket using another scart cable.

Finally, using another scart cable connect the Sky boxes VCR (or AV2) socket into the DVD / VCR's AV2 input socket.

Operation - Either the Sky box or the DVD / VCR can be viewed on the TV by using the two way switch on the scart selector box, but if you wish to record from the Sky box set the DVD / VCR up by viewing it (the recorder) on the TV, and then select AV2 on the recorders "input select" menu to input the scart cable link from the Sky box, because as soon as this is enabled you will be viewing the Sky box via the DVD / VCR, you can then set the recording times on the DVD / VCR.

By the way it might also be possible to record from the TV via the DVD / VCR's AV1 if this is left selected on the two way selector box, but the success of this depends on whether or not the switcher box is fully wired (all pins connected) as most aren't, but if it is then the input selector menu on the recorder has to be sitting on AV1 input and not AV2 as is used to record from Sky.

john: On the assumption that its a Sky+ box that you were using then the simple answer is to remove the scart connection from the rear of the Sky box and plug it into the Humax's similar AV1 socket, the Sky box being out of the equation.

If though by any chance its a Sky+ HD box that you are using then you will possibly have it connected into the TV via an HDMI lead, and so once again remove it from the Sky boxes HDMI socket and connect it into the HDMI socket on the Humax box.

If the other devices mentioned are already working in conjunction with the Sky box then nothing should change in this respect.

By the way the 9300T is a non HD Freeview box and which requires a normal aerial for reception, and so once again its assumed that this requirement can be catered for?

john: On re-reading your posting I should also have said that dependant on the number of input facilities that you have on your TV you could simply connect the Humax box into one of them (scart or HDMI) and use your TV's "input select" button to decide what you want to use, this meaning that you do not really alter anything but simply add the Humax box to the system.

That said only applies if you already have the TV and the surround system in operation and that you have simply purchased the Humax box, if though you have just purchased all three devices mentioned then please ignore anything said and supply the model numbers of the TV and also the surround sound system to enable their input facilities to be checked on.
