Can i recieve satellite with an indoor aerial?

Can i recieve satellite with an indoor aerial?

Can i recieve satellite with an indoor aerial?
published on UK Free TV

Satellite reception dishes are usually placed outside because:

  • they need a clear view of the section of the sky the satellite is in
  • they are difficult to re-align
  • even glass reduces the received signal strength
  • the shape of the dish makes them cumbersome to have indoors

There are a number of different ways, depending on how many SCART sockets and UHF plugs your satellite boxes/ recorder has.

If possible do this;
Most satellite boxes have two or more SCART sockets.
One socket to your TV input SCART and one to your Video or DVD recorder input SCATR.

If you have only one SCART socket on your satellite box then
plug the satellite box SCART to your recorder input SCART then your recorder output SCART to your TV (if the recorder has two SCART sockets)

If your satellite box has only one SCART socket and your recorder only one SCART socket then:
Satellite box SCART to recorder SCART and the UHF aerial output from the recorder to your TV
or:
Get a SCART plug to two SCART socked box and split the satellite box SCART socket to the recorder and TV.

One satellite SCART to the recorder
One satellite SCART to the TV

or

The satellite SCART to the recorder input SCART
Recorder output SCART to the TV

or

Satellite SCART to recorder SCART
Recorder UHF aerial out to TV

or

Satellite SCART to SCART splitter box.
SCART splitter to recorder
SCART splitter to TV

or

Satellite SCART to recorder SCART
Satellite UHF output to TV UHF aerial socket.

If you are more confused after reading this, then let us know if possible what sockets your TV, video recorder and satellite box have
and how you are connecting them together.

mary: Its not really possible for anyone to be able to give advice on your problem without knowledge of your location and with this preferably in the form of a post code, or at least one from a nearby shop etc, as this would then enable the signal strength expected at your location to be assessed as well as the name of the transmitter that covers your area.

Maybe you could also mention the model number of the box you are referring to, but regarding the booster, if its the type behind the TV try by-passing it and see what happens.

beckie: A Freesat box will only work when its connected to a dish in exactly the same way as a Sky box and NOT a normal aerial.

margherita : highly highly unlikely due to the low power the signal is transmitted at.

Having sky fitted next week, we have a digital aerial so hopefully no problems downstairs. We are getting a second box for upstairs but only have an indoor aerial, might sound daft but will this work?
