Hi. Moved into new house and having problems receiving channels on UHF22 e.g. ITV, Ch4.

Been in touch with Sony and the say I'm receiving too many channels through my aerial and so UHF22 is being cancelled out.

They advised to use an attenuator to block out unwanted signals. Have done this and even with adjustment I still can't get UHF22 channels.

To complicate matters UHF22 channels appear occassionally of their own accord.

Any help gratefully received. My postcode is N8. Thanks in advance.

Hi my daughter has a flat in Hull and seems to have problems with severe break-up on the lower MUX's. The problem does seem to come and go. Is it likely to be interference related rather than a fundamental aerial problem? i.e. I was thinking maybe replace the brown coax with better quality sat cable. Not sure about aerial but I believe it is in loft and there are a few up there. haven't been able to confirm whether or not it is wideband.

Dave W: The type of problem your daughter is experiencing always has an element of hit and miss to it concerning anything that's suggested to rectify the situation, as its really a case where on site investigation is required.

That said, does your daughter know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem? as if they do then its very doubtful if changing the co-ax would make any difference, not of course that brown co-ax is always inferior to satellite cable anyway, as some of the older brown co-ax has a really thick copper
braiding which is superior to "some" types of satellite cable found around, and so satellite cable cannot automatically always be assumed as being better.

What you could do though is ask your daughter to try a signal check whilst on BBC1 (or ITV) then do similar on the programme channels she has trouble with, as that will indicate if her problem is one where the signal received on these channels is running at a low level and likewise more prone to suffering from interference problems, so its possible that alterations to the aerial system being used could well show an improvement.

Maybe you could check on her aerial as far as the wide-band issue is concerned, look at the end of the main bar that holds the elements, and if its wide-band it should have a black plastic stopper on the end, if any colour is seen it isn't.

Dave W: Forgot to include that wide-band is necessary only because of the lesser muxes (ArqA / ArqB) being out of band with the others at Ch53 / Ch60.

barry: Its possible that your box has picked up the more local Findon transmitter which is a PSB only station (no commercial programmes) to test if it has or not select BBC1 and go into the signal check screen and note the mux channel number that accompanies the indication seen and if its Ch44 its Findon, so you might have to carry out a manual tune of each of the muxes required as Rowridge's "vertical polarity" output is indicated as being the best for reception at your location.

Further info dependant on findings.

barry: If thats what its doing then that can suggest a fault within the box itself, what brand / model is it?

That said, did you carry out a "factory reset", or "default setting" on the box before the auto-tune? that is if your box allows this action as some dont, but if it does then this is always the best action to take as it eliminates any corrupted data that might be stored in the memory.
