c macdonald: There is quite a bit of overlap of the signals from Moel y Parc and Winter Hill transmitters. Consequently it is not uncommon in your area for receivers to tune to the wrong one.
I would check that the receiver is tuned to Winter Hill for all channels and not Moel y Parc for some (or all).
On ITV4, bring up the signal strength screen and if it is tuned to Winter Hill, it will say that it is tuned to C55 whereas Moel y Parc is C48. It's possible but doubtful tjay you could be picking it up from one of two other transmitters on C29 or C50.
If you find that ITV4 it is not tuned to C55, then that is the problem if the aerial doesn't face Winter Hill which is east north east from your location.
As a workaround, try running the automatic tuning scan with the aerial unplugged up to 65%. If, after doing this, you are missing channels and your receiver has manual tuning, you may be able to restore them using manual tuning. For Yesterday,ITV4 and others, it is 55.

c macdonald: My penultimate paragraph should say that if ITV4 is not tuned to C55, then that is the problem if your aerial DOES face Winter Hill.

Last week (thursday 31 may) my tv started pixelating, making startling noises as doing so, the signal strength was around 35 - 40 and quality was around 95. I got an engineer out who fitted a booster box and cut back and rethreaded to aerial wire, signal strength went to around 60 and quality 100. I have had no problems till today (Friday June 8) when this afternoon my Tv starting pixelating again (but no noise with it. could this be due to air pressure. I am in 1st floor flat WA3 6RE

Jean Moore: If you stop subscribing to Sky, the box simply becomes a 'Freesat-from-Sky' receiver. See the "Compare TV" section at Compare Freeview and Freesat TV | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice to see what's available on that service, and how it differs from the BBC/ITV Freesat service and from what's available through an aerial.
If you have a Sky+ box, be aware that Sky will disable the recording and time-shifting ('pause live TV') features. Also, you lose access to any previously-recorded programmes.
If you want to get recording and time-shifting features back without a subscription, you can buy a Freesat+ recorder, which just plugs in in place of your current Sky box.

Dan: If you have verified that your friends Sky box is actually OK when connected to the dish and all you have done is to disconnect it and connect yours instead, then it strongly suggests that your box is defective.
Press "services - 4 - 6" and check what is indicated on the signal strength / quality bars, as both should be approximately at around the 75% level.

Here is an interesting problem. I have a mani TV with Sky in my lounge an extra TV in the kitchen with a cable from sattelite dish I have a small old Hitachi freeview box all working fine. I bought a new up to date freeview box Made by a company called SLX now when I connect this box up I get the dreaded no signal message come up. Tried playing around with it no joy. Put old box back no problem. WHY??

Brian: Regarding the extra TV in the kitchen with as you say, a cable from the "satellite"? dish, I assume that you are really meaning the Sky boxes RF1 or 2 output socket?
And with regards the old Hitachi Freeview box, is this connected directly into the 2nd TV in the kitchen that you referred to? and should it be, then is it the case that all you are doing is replacing the Hitachi with the SLX and transferring the scart lead and aerial link leads over to it from the Hitachi?
Just out of interest, what model of SLX box are you referring to? as SLX makes stand alone Freeview boxes as well as a scart type Freeview receiver, the latter by the way not having a particularly good record for reliability.
