German TV channels are on the Astra 1 satellites at 19.2E, and are owned by SES Astra of Luxembourg.

UK digital switchover has occurred on satellite - all UK services are digital and are at 28.2E (on Astra 2A, 2B and 2D satellites).

The changeover from analogue terrestrial to Freeview is completely independent of both of these services, and is a decision of the German TV companies.

I live in the USA. Georgia to be specific. Can I receive German FTA here? If so, what are the specs. For example: azimuth, elevation, etc...

Andrew : you should be able to get Deutsche Welle radio and television in English and German by satellite in the US - and possibly some via internet if your connection is fast enough.

Heinz : fast jeder Digitalempfnger wre geeignet. Einfach gegen den alten Analogempfnger austauschen. Evtl. wre ein neuer LNB erforderlich, wahrscheinlich aber nicht. lyngsat.com oder kingofsat.net wren empfehlenswert fr Empfangsdaten. "What Satellite" am Kiosk gibt Auskunft ber geeignete Technik.

I have a Technomate TM-5402HD receiver which receives only receives Freesat.
I also have a Topfield TF5000CI which receives German TV and many other european channels.
From reading questions & answers it appears I cannot receive German TV channels on my Technomate as it is programmed to recieve Freesat only.
DoI need to buy another satellite receiver to receive both Freesat and German TV on the same receiver box?
I would be very grateful if someone could confirm my thinking is correct.

H Nichol A quick look online suggests that both your receivers support DISEQC 1 so you should be able to watch both German and British channels on both receivers. Perhaps the problem is that each receiver has a separate dish or a separate LNB, One aimed at 19.2° East (German channels) and the other at 28.2° East (British channels) but you don't say what your dish set up is. If you have 2 dishes (or 2LNBs on one dish) then each satellite tuner would need 1 DISEQC switch (each DISEQC switch can have up to 4 LNBs but you'd only need the 2) Each DISEQC switch needs to be connected to its tuner with a single cable. Thank you for your reply. I have a single 90mm dish with 2 LNBs. I am receiving fairly good signals from 19.2 East and 28.2 East (sig quality around 87%).
When I scan my Technomate for German channels on Astra 1(or any other european channels) it only lists English language channels - 389 of them on Astra 1!
I must be doing something wrong or just failing to understand the technology.

H Nichol I'm a bit suspicious of this (389 English channels on 19.2° East). On my old Fortec Star receiver where I can filter the channels to look at just 19.2° East I have a total of 560 free to air channels a lot of which don't work. Of those that do a majority are German or maybe French channels with just a few English language channels such as Russia Today. Do you maybe already have a DISEQC switch - normally fitted near the dish with 3 or 5 F connectors - 1 cable from each LNB and 1 cable to the tuner? On the Technomate website there are instructions for your model on page 4 to set up a Monoblock or DISEQC switch. Neil

H Nichol A further thought maybe your Technomate receiver thinks it is connected to 19.2° East but its actually scanning 28.2° East? On my old Fortec Star I have 522 FTA channels on 28.2° East a lot of which dont work so your 389 English channels could be about right. Try fitting a DISEQC switch available on fleabay for less than a fiver. Connect 1 LNB to input LNB1 and the other to LNB2 & use one of the existing down cables to connect the output on the DISEQC switch to your receiver. Retune the Technomate receiver as per page 4 of the instructions and see if that works. If you want to get the other receiver working as well youd need Twin LNBs and a second DISEQC switch. Thank you for your help. I think you are spot on. Although the satellite set-up menu shows 19.2E, it's actually been scanning Astra 2 on 28.2E.
This has led me right up the garden path!
With this new found knowledge, I can rethink what I was trying to do.
Thanks again. Regards Howard.

With respects , to your comments on German HD satellite,,,My work colleague has more than eight free to air German HD channels { Regional ) using a small dish and needing no additional decoder.....There are one or two HD channels that are a bit stuttery at quality of 25% but most regional programmes and SERVUS TV Deutschland are of good quality. The stuttering on a few must be dish size,,,Best wishes..P.S. H e bought the silver crest hd box from Lidl's for around £60. He can get more than 80 sd channels from Germany,He lives in Northumberland,,,
