Sergio : there are many possible reasons!
Double check the communal dish is not on another satellite for Arabic channels. If it is definitely on 13°E Hotbird, ask fellow tenants if they can receive RAI etc. If so,
there is a problem with your coax cable to the distribution box. You will probably need to contact the installer. If the communal dish is not on 13°E, you might be able to appeal to the Council on the grounds of equality, your cultural needs etc.If all else fails, you could mount a small dish on a movable tripod just high enough to peek over the railing at the satellite and painted to blend in with the background. Only put it out when viewing; take it in when not viewing. Fiddly, but a non-permanent dish, almost not visible, should escape the interest of the Council.

Hi all,
I have recently moved in my new home. I am planning to have a disk to view Italian and possible Spanish Tv, so I am doing my to do list for this.
So, as far as I understand what I will need is:
A dish ( 120-150cm diameter) to be pointed to Hot bird 2
My question is having a free view Tv do I still need the box? If so, which one do you suggest? Can you please help me find a website where entering my location i can identify where the dish should be pointed? Thanks

Carmine, you need a 60cm dish pointing at the Hotbird satellite at 13°E and a satellite receiver. A Freesat receiver will be fine for any one satellite, but a Freeview receiver only receives terrestrial television through an old-style television roof aerial. See previous posts here about Tivu from Italy if you want all the main Italian channels all the time. A standard non-Tivu satellite receiver will not receive some prime-time broadcasts. Only mainstream TVE Internacional and 24 Horas are free-to view on 13°E in Spanish - plus a few minor channels.

My parents already have Italian TV via a set top box but they are about to buy a new television set. If they get one with a Freesat HD tuner built in, will they be able to get Italian TV directly with the TV satellite tuner without using the set top box?

11.919GHz carries Canale 5, Rete 4 and Italia 1 - updated on 10.01.13. 11.992GHz carries RAI 1,2,3,News. Some programmes are still free-to-view, others are free for viewers with a Tivu box, which requires registration with a codice fiscale in Italy. See earlier posts here or search Italian websites for more information.

If you have a south-facing balcony with a clear line-of-site to 13°East, you might be able to set up an unobtrusive, small dish or flat rectangular aerial on a movable tripod. You presumably know that you would need a codice fiscal and tivu-box to receive all FTA programmes. Without the codice some prime-time programmes would not be available. This would need to be taken inside frequently to demonstrate that it is not a "fixed" dish. If you have no balcony, you could do the same through an open window (not through glazing) - weather permitting :-) Failing this, a good broadband speed would allow you to get some channels by streaming.

Hello, I'm posting this on behalf of my mum who has a hot bird dish and has had it for a few years now. The Italian channels are no longer available since this month. Has the analogue service been switched off? Would she need to switch the box to digital?

Thank you
