I have Sky+, what happens when I cancel my contract?
If you cancel your contract with Sky the Sky+ box will revert to the function of a normal Freesat from Sky (fSfS) satellite receiver - no PVR facilities and only a single tuner.
The different channels you get on Freesat/fSfS and Freeview can be seen here:

Please don't use a loft aerial, they don't work with Freeview. You need a rooftop aerial for reliable reception.

Can you clarify for me, please?
I am an out of contract Sky customer with a Sky plus box. As I understand it if I cancel my contract and stop paying Sky I will lose the ability to record, to play back my present recordings and to rewind. What channels will I then be able to watch? The Free to Sky ones or the Freesat ones or something completely different?

Peter Rock: You can get the answer to this question by simply removing your viewing card and running through all the various channels that you would normally view, "please insert viewing card" indicating
a Sky dedicate to package channel.
The only exception is that the local BBC or ITV news services requires the card (albeit cancelled for Sky) to be inserted for purposes of providing you with the correct news for your area otherwise it defaults to London, and so even although your Sky contract will be cancelled keep the card installed for this reason.
Many channels are the same (albeit different EPG numbers) on Freesat as on Sky and vice-versa, as well as a few being on Sky thats not on Freesat and likewise vice-versa.

g: Sky has used a variety of terms and conditions over the time and it depends on whether or not this was a free installation, because if it was then in theory they could take it back, however in practice they probably wouldn't although the possibility exists that they will levy a charge against the time remaining on the contract, unless that is you have already paid this?

Hi
I have recently moved into a new house which has a sky dish and cabling, can I just connect a freesat box or do I need to have it installed professionally ?

c mcneil: It should not be necessary to do anything more than simply connect it up as Sky and Freesat are technically identical in this respect, however if it does not work then neither could have any Sky box that might previously have been installed in the property, further advice given should this be found to be the case.

I have been with Sky now for 4 years but as we will be moving abroad soon I wish to cancel my subscription now. I understand that on sky freeview I won't be able to record any more, but will I still be able to watch programmes I already have recorded as of now?

s brodie: No, you need to pay $ky for the privilege of using your own property (the box) and this includes viewing recorded content.
