Ian Stewart: According to Digital terrestrial television in Bulgaria - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - "Standards chosen are DVB-T and MPEG4 AVC/H.264 compression format. DVB-T2 will not be used for now."
Basically, as Freeview in the UK uses DVB-T and MPEG2, it would seem your TV only has MPEG4 capabilities to decode the sound and not the picture.

Anne Britland: If it keeps happening, and the aerial has actually been checked, then yes, it could be the TV. But is there any pattern to the loss of signal? If its a windy or wet day, then a roof aerial can suffer, only to be fine when it drys out - there is a fault, but it doesn't always show up. There shouldn't be any need to retune (in fact thats a bad idea) - its the aerial connection thats gone, nothing else.
Could be worth looking at the socket on the wall, to make sure nothing is loose there, and of course the aerial lead itself. Has anyone else in the home complained of such a problem?
Try another TV or just an old digibox plugged into the back of the current TV - if the same thing keeps happening, its the aerial. If its fine, then its the TV.

I have a Toshiba HDR081 Freeview HDD Recorder. It quite often loses all channel settings, especially when watching a previously recorded programme. When trying to record a film when this happens, the recording doesn't work, and a message telling me that the specified channel is not installed. And I get this message when trying to view any of the channels. The unit also does not answer to the remote, after it has been turned, it will not turn on again. This will clear up after I have unplugged it from the mains, and plugged it back in again. The signal to my freeview TV is not interrupted at all while this happens. The RF in is plugged into the Antennae 1 in, and the Freeview TV is plugged into Antennae 1 out, There is a loop cable between Antennae 2 in & Antennae 2 out ports.
Is there a fault with the unit, or have I plugged everything in correctly, this has only been happening since plugging the Freeview TV In, as previously I had a TV that didnt have Freeview installed?
Regards
Andrew

Andrew: The model in question is difficult to find on Google, but what comes up tends to be problems!
You can see here - Hitachi HDR081 problem | AVForums -
Digihome PVR80 (similar to Hitachi HDR081?) lifeless | AVForums
Frankly, someone more expert than me would be better at diagnosing the actual problem, but its shouldn't be anything to do with having Freeview in your TV. If you want to experiment, split the signal, so that one goes into the TV, and the other into the recorder, rather than passing the rf signal through the recorder, as you do right now. But I suspect that its the unit. And frankly, considering its age, etc, its probably not worth spending a lot of money on repair. It might be a time to get something else, perhaps something from Humax or a similar quality brand.

Adrian Lloyd- I cannot find any reason as to why the box should do what its doing ?
But its reviews are quite poor ?
try an auto scan without the aerial in, so as to delete its channel list then manual tune the channels back in to see if that rectifies it?

I had sky installed and at the same time, aerial plugs in 3 additional rooms, all tv s worked.
I cancelled sky and removed sky box
This resulted in TV working in main room only
I reconnected sky box and used as free view and tv was then ok again in all rooms.
I want to get rid of sky box now.
What needs to be done to get reception in all rooms with TV aerial plug?

Susan: If the three other TVs could view the Sky box then they must be fed from where the main TV is.
You will probably have two conventional (terrestrial) aerial sockets behind the main TV. One will be the incoming feed from the aerial and the other will be the outgoing feed to the other rooms.
The outgoing feed is the one that was connected to RF2 socket on the Sky box. As a test, use a lead to connect the incoming aerial to the outgoing feed to the other rooms. Then check that the other three TVs work; remove the link and confirm that they don't work.
