I live in TA6 4SP and when using the HD channels, every now and again, a warning triangle flashes up, for about 5 seconds, saying there is no signal, it then reverts back to the program, there is no problem on the non HD channels.
Is there work going on in the area or is it my reciever/aerial

David Lowe: It could perhaps be too much signal, more so if there is an amplifier involved:

The HD channel can be the first to suffer in such circumstances.

Dave Lindsay: Ok that helped removed booster but now I have tuned in with C42 but no picture and intermittemnt sound does this mean I need to purcahse attenuator
other channels remain fine actually cleraer.

jan: The nature of your complaint would suggest that your Freesat device is possibly faulty rather than that of your dish being out of alignment, which by the way you should refrain from making any attempts to reposition same as you are very unlikely to succeed.
Your best policy would be to try and and test your box out on another dish, this can either be one used for Sky or Freesat as technically they are both the same.
What make of Freesat device are you using?

Dave Lindsay: many thanks for your help all seems to be resolved by removing the booster

David Messser: Good to hear it.
I was going to ask you about the booster and why you installed it in the first place. I imagine that the answer might be for analogue Channel 5 and subsequently pre-switchover digital because these were on lower power than the four main analogue channels.
As the power of the six digital channels has gone up, and is in real terms greater than the former analogue then the booster is probably surplus to requirements, and may even be OTT.

Dave Lindsay: The booster helped initially in analogue and subsequently. It would appear with the new work at Talchoneston (?) signal strength improved-have a great Christmas

Hi Dave since retuning the bbc channels have broken up occasionally. Might it be a good idea to retunr periodically?
Many thanks julie

julie: Not unless it is found to be tuned incorrectly - that is it is tuned to a transmitter other than Emley Moor.
If this is found then obviously it has retuned itself and taken it upon itself to use a different transmitter. Investigation needs to be made whether this feature can be disabled.
Where the signal strength screen, whilst on BBC One (or any standard definition BBC service) indicates that it is tuned to UHF channel 47 (682MHz) then it is receiving the signal from Emley Moor and will give you the best picture for that signal which is being fed into it. Retuning will simply result in the same outcome - it being tuned to C47.
If it is still tuned to Emley Moor then perhaps too high a signal level is the cause. Try installing an attenuator in the aerial lead so as to bring down the level:
TV Aerial Attenuator Variable 0-20Db Freeview Digital | eBay
VARIABLE ATTENUATOR TV SIGNAL REDUCER 20dB 3 5 6 9 10 12 15 18 DIGITAL FREEVIEW | eBay
Other devices and models are available.
Don't be at all concerned if the strength drops below 100%. This could be an indication of an OTT signal strength - it is quality that matters. Feeding an OTT signal is akin to turning up the volume on a hifi beyond that which the system can cope - what happens is the sound gets distorted and so its quality is reduced.
