What price for an aerial installation?
In responses to the guideline I posted about how much having a new aerial fitted should cost, Ian Grice posted: "£40-£50? Every aerial fitter I contacted wants at least £150+VAT considering you can get a class 3 aerial for under £10 and a class 2 for under £15 and cable is 40p a metre why are they charging so much for 30 minutes work?"
OK, for some places putting up a TV aerial is hard work, such as multi-story properties. As many people will simply be exchanging a Group A, B, C/D, E or K aerial for a wideband type, often without changing the supporting pole or cable, a high price cannot be justified.
I am concerned that some companies will exploit vulnerable groups (such as the elderly).
So, I what prices have you been quoted for aerial installations? What price have you paid for installation?
Do you know of any companies to avoid? Do you know of any companies that are good value for money?
Or do you work for a great aerial installation company?
Some of these prices sound ridiculas for a basic wide band aerial installation my aerial installers would charge £65 plus vat in manchester .

they are ridiculous Joe but in the south of england you get little choice
as for a professional fit i have yet to find anyone on our estate of 200 properties with a good install with wires down all properties not only that but in the wrong colour
my house with no wires is top with a loft install and the only one on CP

Joe: Cheap is not cheap, expensive is not expensive. I would regard KB aerials prices as pretty reasonable, and possible at the lower end of the spread. If you are paying £65, what are you actually getting?
ATV will sell a Log aerial for around £25 (I know that Toolstation sell a fancy looking thing for £13..). Clamps, poles, etc? perhaps another £15-20. Cable - around 65p a metre for the good stuff . It all adds up, and even by buying in bulk, a cheaper supplier, etc, there is going to be a cost. And does the person charge enough to allow them to have insurance, etc?
If someone is going on my roof, then I want them to be safe and for my property to be safe as well.
Its nice that the company you linked to has an 18 month warrenty, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

I run my own Co in Devizes, Wiltshire... The cost for a wideband 18 element aerial fitted on a 6' mast on the chimney and one cable to the lounge works out at £95 - £98. Which I think is a very good price. I am a one man band, NOT vat registered, I have insurance and I give an 18 month g'ntee.
Phil Blake : Blake Satellite & Aerials.
If you paid more than £ 110 I think you have been overcharged !

It comes down to the age old argument of where you live and the type of property you live in. I was training with the CAI in Watford and some of the prices they quoted were astronomical but the norm for London. I can charge between £110 and £140 for a new install here in Gloucestershire to one point. The further up north you go the lower the prices seem to get.
Phil Blake: I take it that when you say £110 you mean your normal 2 up 2 down property?

Andrew Brown: yes, your normal standard house. If it was a bungalow it would be a little less, due to using less cable.obviously I have quite a few areas that I cover that needs Masthead amps and sometimes I use high gain aerials - then the cost goes up.
Average install for one point on the chimmo is £95 - average for good areas where I can fit in the loft is £74.
While on the subject of prices... Their is a new guy in my area ( Aerials & Vision ) He has no experience or knowledge in this kind of work and he charges at least 50% more than I do - and quite often I have to go and
Correct what he has done. I think he should be on Rogue Traders !

A lot of my work comes from fixing other installers work. It's annoying when they have called you in the first place, didn't want to wait 4 days or said you were too expensive then you end up going there anyway!

Why annoying?
Promptness and price are valid reasons for choice. The customer has no real way of knowing you are better - but if you are nice to them will presumably tell their friends

Steve P: when I am called to rectify another riggers mess what I get of the customer is I have just paid someone else carn't you use what he's fitted and make it better. What I tell them is I won't use anything they have fitted take it all down give it to the customer and fit all my own equipment that way I can give them a guarantee. I tell them befor I start the job if they get me in the first place they save money.

Andrew Brown: if you want a laugh go onto the action aerials web site and look at there prices, at least they are upfront about how much they rip you off
