You need just TWO SCART leads:

- one from the SCART on the TV marked (1) or (RGB) connected to the Sky+ box's SCART labelled "TV"

- one from the SCART on the Sky+ box marked "VCR" to the first SCART connector on the DVD/VCR combo.

You can then view the stuff from the DVD by either pressing "PLAY" or putting the Sky+ box into Standby mode.

Darren: Firstly, you need to read the manual - its not that bad, but since I dont have an e6 in front of me (I think it has a scart rather than the flat connections of the DT..). perhaps there is a way to daisy chain the DVD to the scart input via the Sky box, but it sounds a bit rubbish.

Sky plus is scart only, so thats the scart used. You can split the Scart/RGB signal with a splitter box, but they dont always work very well - but you could probably get one for a couple of quid. The Wii seems to be scart only as well (there is a discussion of such a problem here : http://techforums.nintend…305)

Check the DVD player - if it has an HDMI, your sorted.

You have 3 HDMI's, which (as I've just commented) is now the standard. so ultimately you will be using them. At worse, get a switchable scart splitter - about £3. If your upgrading to Sky HD, then thats sorted. As I said, a decent 2013 model blu-ray (Sony, Panasonic or Samsung) can be had for £60 or less, and does everything the DVd does and more.

BTW - what do you think of the e6? We've sold lots, and it has a decent picture, but I like actual customer feedback, which has been generally positive.

Mike,

yes thanks for that. Yes wife said look at manual which i did and they showed daisy chain (but the sky into dvd and the dvd to the tv - which i did not think much off - did not work anyway) But they drawing also showed HDMI leads (think they were covering there bases).

I will check if DVD is hdmi (doubt it though) so will prob end up getting a splitter and try that.

Only got TV yesterday and got it going - but so far yes very impressed with the picture and TV. My wife connected it to web etc and had a little mess around with it. From what I have seen the menus etc are easy to sort out - Had to adjust the picture as very bright so i had to navigate my way to sort that out.. So far could not fault it.

Thanks for your help.

Darren: Good, the Panasonic smart stuff is much better than last year - just wondering when all four channels will be on catchup on all the brands - apparently its writing the software..

Start with the splitter, and go from there.

Darren: On the subject of your original query, I am a bit curious as to whether or not you have tried the DVD connected straight into the TV's scart socket just to make sure that its working? because the method you used by connecting it into the Sky+ boxes AV2 (marked video) should under normal circumstances have worked and indeed in some cases override the Sky box without it being in standby, albeit that placing the Sky box in standby is the more usual way of doing things.

Willie Byrne: You can quite simply get over the problem by purchasing a "two way" scart switch box, connecting its common input into the TV and with a scart cable from one of the two sockets on the switch box into the DVD player, the second socket on the switch box being connected into the Sky box, selecting either the Sky box or the DVD via the selector switches.

Hi I had a problem with blue screen on Sky earlier this week - sorted that but now Sky will only work when DVD player is switched on - previously if you turned DVD player on it over-rode Sky.
My set up is Sony KV28LS36U Old Style TV no HDMI but two scarts, DVD Player with 1 HDMI and 1 Scart and SKY +HD box with HDMI and Scart sockets

So HDMI between SKY and DVD Player
Scart from Sky box to TV Scart 1
Scart from DVD player to TV Scart 2

Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Rachel: At a basic level, your setup is fine, and not much different to mine (I also have a scart only TV) - Sky in scart 1, and DVD in scart 2. All you need to do is to use the source/input button the Sony, or more normally, you'll just use the Sky box and the TV will pick it up automatically.

I'm wondering why you've got an HDMI between the DVD player and the Sky box. If it was a DVD recorder, then you could use it to record from the Sky box, but if its a player, you have no need of it. I'm wondering if its messing up the default inputs on the Sony. Just unplug it at both ends, and see if it makes any difference.

Since you've had a blue screen experence with the Sky box already, it might be worth changing the scart cable connecting to the TV. Try Poundland for a replacement - its an old technology, so the fancy Belkin ones are really cheap.

Hi MikeB
Thanks very much for your help - the hdmi was connected by sky technician when the original Sky box was replaced with the Sky +HD box so I just assumed this was required!
It's done the trick anyhow all working fine now - Sky on AV1 and DVD on AV2.
Been searching forums for a similar prob for days now - was starting to tear my hair out !!

Cheers Rachel I know where to go now if I encounter any other probs :-)

Rachel: I think what happened is that the Sky bloke connected the HDMI (they give you the cable free!), although since you've got a CRT TV with no HDMI, I cant figure out why. Connecting it to a DVD player is just plain daft. You could use a DVD recorder thats connected to a Sky box, but this would be via scart.

The HDMI will be used when you upgrade the TV - I assume you got a really good deal on Sky HD, hence the upgrade, even though you cant use the HD at present.

I suspect there will be one or two comments about Sky installers now...
