You can get the following Freeview channels on with an ex-contract digital satellite receiver (once it is connected). Items marked with a star require either a Freesat from Sky (fSfS) card, or a expired Sky subscription card to view.

Lesley Allen : If your viewing (in one single room) comprises entirely of programmes via Freeview (terrestrial) and also via your Sky+ HD box, then the only cables required to be connected into your TV are (1): The coax connector lead from your normal aerial for Freeview reception, (2): The HDMI connector cable from the Sky box.

Obviously the Sky+ box will have two coax leads from the dish and also the HDMI lead connected into the TV.

Lisa Ritchie: Yes, just leave everything connected and you will still be able to watch all the free to air channels when your Sky subscription ends. If you leave the viewing card in you will also get a few extra free channels as well as the correct BBC and ITV regions at the top of the EPG. You won't be able to record or access any previous recordings on your Sky box however as this requires an active Sky subscription.

Can't afford our sky anymore after losing job - can you really use the box once the subscription is cancelled?

liz: It's your box so you can do whatever you like with it. What you won't be able to do is record anything or access any previous recordings as an active subscription is required for recording features to be enabled.

From Peter,
We have ditched Sky, which leaves us with a sky box. Prior to Sky we had Freesat with a Humax box, but with no recording, so as well as a Sky dish with twin LMBs we still have a Freesat dish with one LMB, which works very well with the Humax box.
The FREESAT DISH will also give us SKY channels up until the end of the month when they will be cut off.
We have gone to BT TV, which, to get BBC and ITV channels they tell us to erect an aerial to receive FREEVIEW which I don't wish to do as we can already get those channels from FREESAT .
If I could use the Sky box to receive FREESAT channels at the end of the month, then we could utilize recording and catch up facilities .
Could the Sky box be used for FREESAT channels.

peter jones: Your Sky box will continue to receive all free to air channels, however it will not be able to record unless you have an active Sky subscription.

Lee Johnson:

You should be able to get the 'free to air' unencrypted channels on the Sky box. Without a Viewing Card you will not get a regionalised service but probably the general London-base services instead of thoise local to where a card is registered.

You need to carefully check all the connections between the LNB, at the front of the dish, and the box. You may also need to check the alignment of the dish as that is quite critical.

I have just (1st Feb) started a basic sky subscription. They came and changed my hd box to a Q bos and did somwthing with the dish that was mine...I think they replaced it. I don't want to have a full sky subscription. I'd like to try using iplay to watch programs I like. Would I have to get something like Netflix. I want unlimited broadband so I can do this and have my phone connected to the internet whilst at home...I am on Tesco mobile. Truthfully I don't understand what I need. I have a multiroom sky HD box that I have been told I can use for freeview and I own my dish although Sky did something with it when they installed nsky Q. Am I able to cancel the subscription and perhaps get my money (presently 25 initial and the rest adds up to 55) back or should I approach sky and ask if they could do me a broadband only leaving the dish nof course. I don't want a tv. I will use my laptop and perhaps iplayer
