We are independent and do not wish to be confused with http://www.freesatfromsky.com/ - for Brian Butterworth's CV, click here.

The site contains full information about both the Sky and non-Sky FTA satellite receivers, but we have found that the majority of people who are using free-to-air satellite have ex-contract Sky receivers. The problems with Solus cards have dealt with on the site in the past.

The BBC and ITV are planning an alternative Freesat service. As soon as they announce anything, I'll be happy to publish it.

Sky don't really like publicizing their free-to-air satellite service, and did not even have a website for the service until recently. (For example, they still have not updated the Sky News logo on their site). UK Free receives no payment from Sky for their advertisement, it's just there to help those people who can't get Freeview!

There is lots of information for Freesat people, for example.

These pages provide links to find local installers and (not-just-Sky) satellite shops:

As soon as high-street multiples (Argos, Dixons etc) start stocking DIY Freesat equipment, I hope to extend the list on the "current set-top boxes".

When the site launched back in July 2002, we decided that specialist systems (multi-dish or motorised) were covered much better elsewhere in specialist magazines. Also, list of channels and frequencies is covered by the excellent lyngsat.com.

The site was born out of experience gained from ONdigital's technical support failure, and so the site has a large Freeview section.

We always welcome contributions and are always interested in extending the depth of information.

Love the site but over time it has become more and more difficult to navigate. I found it almost impossible to find particular transmitter information.

Perhaps it's me? Other friends have commented difficulty in navigating also.

Keep up the good work . .

Hi Brian,

I'm trying to deregister from your site, but even though I fill in your form it's not effective and I keep on getting e-mail updates. Not sure what's happening here, but could you take me off your e-mail distribution list please?

Thanks

Hi, I have a Humax HDR-FOX T2 connected by HDMI to a Sony KDL-32D300 TV. My problem is when watching/recording via the Humax box programmes on Channel 5, 5* sometimes ITV, ITV4 the picture is rubbish, however via the tv they are very good. I live in Lincolnshire and use the Belmont mast.

can I use the tv receiver then to the Humax?

Thank you

Bob: Check your signal strength on both the Humax and the Sony. My Sony PVR is pretty sensitive, but very robust about high signal strength - its will be fine up to 94%. Humax is also pretty sensitive, but its less robust and it will start to complain a bit sooner.

Its hardly surprising then that the Humax has a problem with too much signal, when the Sony seems fine. My parent-in-law live in North Norfolk, and are having the same problem with their Panasonic TV and PVR from Belmont. The TV complains a little sometimes, but the PVR does it much more.

BTW - the postcode you've given reckons your in Northumberland!

Hi Brian,
I'm a big fan of your website - thanks for taking the time to fill it so comprehensively.
I'm particularly interested in DAB coverage, but have noticed that some transmitters added or upgraded over the last 1-2 years haven't been shown on your multiplex & mast pages. I appreciate other priorities on your time might have distracted you.
I've recently started to create my own google-based maps, but as I'm generally referring your site for accurate coverage extents I wondered if it could offer you my time to assist you updating these pages, reducing duplication and inaccuracies.
Please contact me if you're interested, and think I can be of assistance. Website writing skills might be limited, but I can learn, and I'm pretty knowledgeable of the latest DAB developments, referring to a number of reliable sources.
