My Sky box just says "Searching for listings"
You will get "Searching for listings" is there is no signal from the dish. Press SERVICES then select SYSTEM SETUP and then SIGNAL TEST.
If you don't have a good enough signal unplug the box from the mains and check the connection from the dish to the box. You might also want to check the dish hasn't been damaged or moved by a storm (or similar).

Hi I am living in Stevenage, I had a TV in the living room and another one in my bedroom on the second floor, I can watch sky programs in the living room but not in my bedroom, I have a long cable connecting my LNB and to my second floor, the error messege says "searching for listing", but there is always a main screen when I operate the box on second floor, I guess that's probably something wrong with my cable...

Nicola: Although the other Sky boxes used in your house are reported as being OK the LNB ports used for the problem box might not be, and so the best way to determine as to whether they are or not is to temporarily swap the problem box over with one of the others, giving an update on the results, further advice being dependant on findings.
Just another little point I wondered about, when you said that you reset the box was this via the boxes "Reset" option on the menu? and although you have only had the box for 10 days was it a new box? as there are different versions of these.

I NEED HELP:
Today I was watching TV as normal and switched everything off as I went upstairs to get catch a nap. I came back down after an hour or so and switched on the TV adn everything else. The TV, Sky box, DVD Player etc came on and when the sky box came on, it did not show the sky channel, I wasn't able to switch to any channel, even from those 4 buttons that be on the top of the remote. All it said was: Any further scheduled information cannot be listed. Then it said: Searching for listings. I waited like half an hour, but still it was frozen on the screen. What oI do? Tried 2 hours later-still the same. :( Help me please.:).

Peter: Which model of Sky box do you have? Have you checked the cabling and connections coming from the dish?

Hi,
something similar has started to happen to my sky box.
after about 10-15mins of viewing when I go to change channels (or press any information buttons etc.) I get the 'searching for listings / no information available".
I unplug at back and turn back on and go through the reinitialising stage and then works until the problem comes back again.
I think that doing the menu resetting (even in the secret menu) doesn't solve it anymore - i could be wrong with this observation tho'.
perhaps unrelated or not - the box seems to be hotter than usual in the recent warm weather ??

J M:
It would seem that your Sky box has an internal technical problem.
Replacingf it would be a suitable cure.

Yes.
The problem is that I'm using a type of 'pirate' card that lets me rewind/record ONLY the FTA channels.
It's very difficult to find a (second hand) box in which this card works.
Otherwise I will have to consider buying a freesat pvr recorder thingy.
I don't want to subscribe to SKY as I am not a sports viewer or a film buff.

JM:
I would suggest you look at getting a Freeaat box instead. They do not need any subscription nor any kind of 'viewing card'. As it's name implies, Freesat is free to use and there are no charges. Assuming your current Sky box is not a Sky Q type and you have the original LNB fitted to your dish, then a Freesat dish will give a wide range of programmes, see youtube-flat
