Tracey Savage: Hi, Tracey. In Edenbridge you are expected to receive a good signal from the Crystal Palace transmitter. Since there are no currently reported problems on the Crystal Palace transmitter, the tv reception installation in your home must have developed a fault. First of all, you need to check that the recent wind hasn't blown your aerial round so that it is no longer pointing towards Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace is North-North-West of Edenbridge, so that's the direction your aerial should be pointing in. Compare yours to neighbours' and you'll see what I mean. If the aerial needs re-pointing, you may prefer someone else to get up on to the roof or the chimney pot to do it for you - it's up to you. Once your aerial is pointing the right way, you need to check the condition of the aerial cable to make sure no water has seeped into it, for example. You also need to check all aerial lead connections: sometimes a piece of copper wire from an aerial lead can 'fray out' from where it's supposed to be bunched up, causing a short circuit which stops or hinders the signal from reaching your t.v. or set-top box. Check too that all aerial cabling is firmly connected to the aerial plug and/or socket connectors. Then disconnect your aerial lead from your tv or set-top box and carry out a 'first-time installation' Your tv or set-top box will display a message after a couple of minutes, saying, "no channels found". This is correct because the aerial was deliberately disconnected. This has given your tv or set-top box the opportunity to 'forget' its previous set-up and also 'forget' any corrupted data' that had been stored in it. Then re-connect your aerial lead and do another 'first-time' installation. This time, all receivable channels should be listed. Try all of this and you'll have all of your tv channels back again. Richard, Norwich.

Selina : Hi, Selina. You have abused and misused this UKFREE.TV website. This site is specifically for people who are seeking technical assistance on the reception of UK broadcast television and/or radio channels. If someone has been turned down when applying for a loan in the UK, that person needs to contact one of the three UK registered 'credit reference agencies' (aka CRAs), which are 'Equifax', 'Experian' and CallCredit'. The details of any and all of these are freely available on the internet. Alternatively one may join clearscore.com free of charge in order to obtain one's credit score 'free for life'. The credit reference agencies to which I have referred in this post explain to you the reason(s) for one's possessing a low credit score and then go on to inform you of actions to be taken to improve the credit score so that one can be favourably considered for substantial loans. This all takes time, Selina and one cannot expect instant results, even if one's daughter is very ill. If you are a UK resident and possess British Nationality and Citizenship the National Health Service will provide health-care for your daughter without your having to spend a penny of your own money. Bearing in mind your posting refers to currency amounts in 'euro' units of currency, I suspect you are not posting from within the UK. I hope the information here might help you in the future, but please remember that this website is abut tv and radio reception, not aout credit ratings, bank loans or health care! Richard, Norwich.

Judith Motler: Hi, Judith. It is very important in your particular case, for your tv aerial to be pointing at the Mendip transmitter, which is South of Bristol, East-South-East of Weston-Super-Mare and West-South-West of Bath. What you do NOT want is for your aerial to be pointing towards Wenvoe, which is West-South-West of Cardiff. It would seem that you need to ensure that your aerial is being directed towards the Mendip transmitter BEFORE you attempt another re-tune, whether manual or automatic! I also concur with Mike P in that you ought to determine whether, indeed, Mendip is the best transmitter for you at your location, and to determine this a postcode of your location or of a nearby shop, post office or garage is needed. Even the name of a village or the district within a town or city can help us to determine your most likely transmitter, which, as Mike surmises, may not, in fact, be Mendip at all! One other thing - not all tvs are capable of having a manual re-tune done. The first priority is to choose the best transmitter, then aim the aerial at it, then carry out a tune. Richard, Norwich.

nicholas Mugford: Hi, Nicholas. I think you do have a point here, although in the East of England tv viewers have always liked regional tv news magazine programmes, such as the BBC's Look East and itv's itv Anglia News and its predecessors. When Mustard TV launched in March 2014, I was one of a very significant minority of Norwich city tv viewers who expressed any interest in it. Two years on and the station seems to have developed a little more interest amongst those who live in the Norwich suburbs, with its local property programme developing in popularity recently. It has also been interesting for me to note how many Swansea tv viewers who don't get their signals from Kilvey Hill have posted on UKFREE.TV their dismay at not being able to receive Bay TV Swansea since its launch on 12th. July 2016. I'm not sure what you are saying about local radio because when radio broadcasting began in England in 1922, 2LO was a 'local station for London'. Richard in Norwich.

Antony: Hi, Antony. As StvensOnlln1 states, it's all about commercial viability. If you should wish to receive 'Dave' at your location, you would need to try to get your Freeview signal from Crystal Palace, probably your nearest Full Freeview transmitter, or pay for the channel via Sky or Virgin Media. I'm assuming that you're not prepared to pay out for either a sophisticated receiving setup to pick up Crystal Palace nor a subscription to Sky or Virgin Media, just for this one channel? Richard, Norwich.

MarkDubya: Hi, Mark. You are correct that the Malvern transmitter, whilst classed as 'Full Freeview', does not actually transmit the multiplex called 'COM7', which is the multiplex which carries the additional Freeview HD channels. For a COM7 transmitter, you would need to get Sutton Coldfield, which I'm assuming is not possible from your location, which is why you are on Malvern? Richard, Norwich.

Lee: Hi, Lee. I have a Topfield video recorder which provides the Freeview signal to my tv set by a SCART lead. The SCART lead is plugged into the TV SCART connection on the back of the recorder because neither my recorder nor my tv has an HDMI connection. If my recorder and tv had HDMI connections I would have used HDMI instead of SCART because that would have meant I could view HD programmes, which I can't with my current recorder and tv set. Obviously, the aerial fly-lead gives the recorder a Freeview signal, with that being fed by the SCART lead to give the tv its video and audio. Hope this will assist you, Richard. PS I am sorry that I didn't respond to your posting nearer to the time you sent it, but I didn't get UKFREE.TV up on my laptop until 8 a.m.'ish.

Huw Davies: Good Morning, Huw. Unfortunately the regulator, Ofcom, has with-held the radiation pattern for the Kilvey Hill Freeview transmitter for reasons known to itself and so we cannot tell whether the Bay TV output from Kilvey Hill has been restricted in an Easterly direction, but I suspect not, because I had read somewhere that residents of Port Talbot would be able to receive Bay TV. It could be worth experimenting by tuning into the Bay TV channel and then climbing up to your aerial and rotating it very very slightly whilst someone else watches the tv and shouts up to you once the signal has steadied. Here in Norwich, our local city Freeview tv channel transmits at only one-tenth of the power of most of the other 'main' multiplexes and so I need a 'booster' or 'signal amplifier to receive it, so you may wish to consider buying one of these specifically to amplify the incoming signal from Kilvey Hill just for Bay TV, although of course, such a booster will actually amplify the signal for all multiplexes and increase the signal strength for all of them. As long as your overall signal strength doesn't exceed, say 90%, you ought to be OK if you do buy one. Hope these suggestions will help, Richard in Norwich, Sunday 31st. July @ 10 a.m. approximately.
