Thank you so much for delving into the details behind the beams of different powers at Scoval. I'm sure the results of you research work will further enlighten Richard on Skye. Thanks again, Richard, Norwich.

Jan Davies: Hi, Jan. I think it's very unfortunate for you that the nearest Sound Digital transmitter to you is Danbury Green (Bakers Lane) near Chelmsford. I wouldn't hold out much hope of picking it up from there where you are, even with an outside aerial. I think you've been doing the right thing by supporting the Planet Rock petition as well as your own lobbying of Bauer! You will, I suspect, probably have to wait a year or two until it is eventually decided to put the multiplex on to Mendlesham, Manningtree or Sudbury. I'd like to know why you think listening online is a faff. ~I just tried it from
www.planetrock.com/general/listening-online/
... and it was just one mouse click for the sound to come through my laptop's speakers. I can connect extension speakers or connect to my amp and hi-fi if I really wanted to, but i have a thing about listening 'via the 'airwaves' since I've been interested in 'proper radio' since the pirate stations of the 60s!!! Shows my age!!!

Steve: Hi, Steve. It's not you, it's them!!! See Roger's and Paul's posts. It has to either be the feeds from the broadcasters to the transmitter or something not being done correctly at the transmitter site. I sometimes wonder why the transmission engineers do not do live monitoring to check that everything is OK, rather than sit around waiting for their next complaint to come in!!! Richard, Norwich.

Carol Cusack : Hi Carol. Thank you for supplying your full postcode. This has enabled me to check the transmitter(s). There are no faults or works going on at any of the transmitters that could serve you and so the issue must be down to you. Firstly, pop outside and check your aerial points the same way as all of your neighbours' aerials. Then, is it possible that a child or a pet has knocked into the aerial lead where it feeds your tv, or maybe the lead has been accidentally pulled and the connection between the lead and its plug has become loose either at the tv end or the end which plugs into the wall-plate. Check these things, then if necessary, do a re-tune. Rememember that if you do a full re-tune you will lose any favourite channes or recording timer settings. I hope the tips will be of assistance and I'm sorry it took me 40 minutes to reply! Richard in Norwich. PS Let me know how you get on!

Christy: Good Morning Christy. i've just tuned into Freeview channel 61 and am getting the True Entertainment channel. If i turn over to channel 66 I get the CBS Reality channel. I'm pretty sure I've had these for about a month now on those channel numbers. Richard, Norwich.

Sharon lloyd: Hi Sharon. According to Digital UK, you should be using the Bristol Barton House City Centre Freeview Light relay transmitter. This transmitter transmits at a low power of only 18 watts per group of channels. When I sat up late one night, I noticed a drop in signal strength between 1 a.m and 5 a.m myself and I'm using a main 100 000 watts per mux transmitter. Perhaps this is something that the transmitters are set to do overnight when there are few people watching television? By the way, if it is after one in the morning, we call this 1 a.m., not p.m.! a.m. is Latin for 'anti meridien', meaning 'before midday, whereas p.m. stands for 'post meridien', meaning 'after midday'. Think of 'posterior' meaning 'the rear'. p.m. is the rear end of the day! There are no faults or engineering works on your transmitter, so I'd suggest you check all of your aerial lead connections at the tv end and the wall plate end. Also, make sure you're not trying to watch your t.v. near an operating washing machine or fridge/freezer or mobile phone, because any of these can cause interference. Hope these comments help, Rchard, Norwich.

Andy Jones: Hi, Andy. It might interest you to know that viewers in Salisbury have been on this website complaining about their local Salisbury relay transmitter causing no proper lip sync between vision and sound on their HD channels, but similarly the transmitter operators will not acknowledge that there is any problem at the transmitter. the issue is driving these Salisbury viewers mad because they all know that the issue is unrelated to their receiving setups! Richard, Norwich.

Nick Gross: Hi, Nick. I note that UHF channel 24 is the channel Rowridge uses for the main SD PSB1 or BBCA multiplex and so if your aerial is of the correct type is in good condition and is correctly aimed at Rowridge, your receiving equipment should treat reception of channel 24 as a PRIMARY channel and not a secondary channel ( it is secondary channels, usually from a different transmitter that one would expect to be found in the 800s).In my experience it is sometimes necessary to retune TWICE with the aerial connected back in, in order to get all channels back with the correct logical channel numbers (LCNs).Give this a try in the first instance. Obviously I'd assume you've checked EVERYTHING for loose or dodgy connections! It would be interesting to know how your Youview SD box and Humax PVR get their signals and how these two pieces of equipment are connected to your tv set, as any other respondents to your post may well wish to know too. Hear from you soon , after you've checked all connections and re-tuned again, Richard, Norwich.

MikeP: Hi Mike. Thank you for enlightening me regarding transmittter output power obligations on PSB providers since the year of my birth! Richard, Norwich. ~I also note that you've put lip sync issues in Salisbury down to viewers' equipment, in terms of decoding abilities, rather than transmission/broadcaster issues! Richard, Norwich.

Andy Fraser: Hi again, Andy. You don't have to spend SERIOUS MONEY to attach a better aerial to your hi-fi. Any proper DAB aerial will be superior to the wire dipole that came wit the hi-fi, because the hi-fi suppliers do not take account of individuals' radio listening preferences and the hi-fi wire dipole is not optimised for DAB! The following is 13.99 plus free delivery and can be fixed up INDOORS in the room in which you listen to the radio:
Mercury Outdoor DAB Radio Aerial Kit: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
You'd need to add the cost of a lead with appropriate F-connectors, for example from Screwfix for another 6.29 plus VAT:-
Satellite Lead F-Plug to F-Plug 10m | Fly Leads | Screwfix.com
So the whole job is done for around twenty quid! Hardly SERIOUS MONEY!!! Hope this helps, Richard, Norwich.
