James Powell - Just to add you may need to purchase a an FTA (free to air receiver) I am not sure that the SKY box tuner and software will achieve a result. It's possible to pick a suitable cheap box online - auction site etc.

Richard - I am not sure that you are totally correct on this one. It's possible that ITV might be, but I rather think that the BBC's constitution as a Public Service Broadcaster would prohibit this. Unless the BBC's commercial undertaking BBC Worldwide does, but I doubt that as I understand that income here is re-generated back into the BBC's revenues as a whole, Briantist, will likely give a more accurate picture here than I have.

Brian- Thanks, I was aware of the minority shareholding by BSKYB in ITV and the history of attempts to block Virgin by increasing their stake and having to subsequently dispose of the additional shareholding.

Dawn P - The best Satellite for this is Atlantic Bird3 at 5.0 degrees West. You would require the satellite dish or an additional dish antenna to be set-up for this Satellites reception and you are likely also to require an additional FTA (Free to air) receiver such as a Technomate 5000 series - around £60.00. SKY receivers are specifically designed for SKY subscription services. Dependent on where you reside in the UK you may also need to consider a larger dish. Other satellites eg:- ASTRA 1 at 19 degrees South East also has the odd French language channel but the first option here is offering the most comprehensive range of viewing.

Dawn P - It's possible to obtain a receiver designed for an alternative French "Freesat" type service they can be had in the UK, but unlike here this requires a non subscription access viewing card and you would still have to purchase the receiver.

G cooksey (A) You cannot connect a Satellite dish to a "Freeview" receiver. You can connect to a "Freesat" SKY or an FTA (Free to Air) Satellite receiver. (B) You cannot splice the satellite cable and standard aerial cable as you suggest. Can you run an external cable(s) from a Satellite dish externally and then make an entry to the point where your TV and Sat receiver are located? If your locus and your property is suitable it might be possible to ground site your dish.

Mandy Ellis - If you plan on giving up SKY you could consider a "Freesat" Satellite recorder with a built in Hard Drive of Which there are several produced by different manufacturers. This would also give access to iplayer and the ITV player catch up services via Broadband connection.

Jonah - Anyone who is being served by a "Freeview" Lite Transmitter and seeking to have a wider channel choice than that available from these transmitters will be better off in installing "Freesat" subject to having a clear line of sight to the cluster of satellites at 28degrees South East. You might also be better off in this choice if you have continuing reception problems with "Freeview" from a main transmitter or where your locus - line of sight - via some terrain obstruction to the transmitter is causing a problem and where this isn't the case in line of sight to the satellite cluster.

Simon Disconnect the aerial and mains plug. Re-connect mains plug leaving the aerial disconnected. Now do a factory reset which should clear the receivers channel memory. re-establish the aerial feed and do an initial set up from scratch this should bring in all available channels. If this doesn't resolve then check with neighbours for their reception. If their is a collective problem still existing you may need to consult with the factor (if your rented) or if owned with the responsible property upkeep agent(s).

Richard Anscombe- I think you will find that were you to notify SKY they would be looking for another subscription. You could of course install a dish having this done by a local rigger and either move your receiver around or buy another. There may be an issue with pairing your card on a second box though.
