james: Why did you change the antenna if it used to work fine with analogue? Reception of the PSB muxes from most transmitters is similar to the former analogue coverage. The COM muxes could, admittedly be less reliable due to frequency sharing with other nearby transmitters. Depending on your exact location Rowridge comes into the equation, with the COM muxes sharing the same frequencies with Crystal Palace. RowridgeVP might offer a more reliable signal than CP. What direction do your neighbours' aerials point in? More accurate advice can be given with knowledge of your postcode, or that of a nearby public building from which predicted reception for your location can be obtained.

Harry Gallagher: When you stop paying your subscription to Sky you will continue to receive the free-to-view channels including BBC/ITV/C4/C5/Sky News etc via your Sky box. Subscription channels will of course be blocked. If you have Sky+ the record/playback facility will also be disabled, the box continuing to work as a standard SKY box. If you wish to receive "Freeview" using the in-built tuner in a TV, this would require a normal UHF TV aerial to be connected to the aerial socket of the TV. If you remove the Sky card from the card slot temporarily you will be able to see which channels will continue to be available without subscription.

peter tovell: What is the quality of the signal on C50, the BBC channels? As a matter of interest how does this compare with say Sky News on C49 or ITV on C59?

Vin Richley: The HD channels on satellite for the additional ITV services are subscription only. A similar arrangement exists for commercial channels in Germany, the standard definition services are free to air, the HD services are subscription only. It is a wait and see if ITV3HD is one of the services chosen for carriage on the proposed extra Freeview muxes planned to encourage take up of DVB-T2 equipment.

Deehcee: UKTV is part of the commercial arm of the BBC, so is run for profit, not as a public service which is what the licence fee pays for.The subscription revenue from Sky is greater than any potential increase in advertising revenue that might be expected by being free to air on satellite.

richard: Although the engineering information has not been updated for this transmitter I can confirm that the BBC mux (PSB1) from Brecon UHF is listed as being off air from 19.32 to 22.32 yesterday 13th May 2013. The HD channels were off air from 19.32 yesterday to 01.32 today.

Patrick: As Camlough transmits Radio Ulster on FM it is reasonable to assume that before any FM switch-off can occur the DAB coverage of the Northern Ireland multiplex will have to be improved to ensure that Radio Ulster continues to be available to listeners who currently enjoy good reception on FM.

Dave Lindsay: The link you found is one for a proposal from Digital One to transmit the UK national network from six transmitter sites in Northern Ireland, a bit more cherry picking of the sites which serve the most populated areas.

directvni: It is true that where the frequencies currently in use fall into group A, B or K an aerial for the correct group should be fitted to minimise possible interference problems from 4G signals. Unfortunately if the frequencies fall in the C/D group it is necessary in most cases to use an aerial that covers up to C68 in order to obtain reliable reception of the required Freeview transmissions on their current frequencies. It is possible that manufacturers might in due course, bring out aerials that only cover up to C60 but the question remains if in about five years time all Freeview transmissions are allocated frequencies below C49, whether viewers in former group C/D areas will need to replace their aerials!

Pauline: It might be worth noting that Digital UK have given notice that TV transmissions from Salisbury are liable to interuption this week as from 21st May 2013. If your tuners do an automatic re-tune during the night, or when a change in signal is detected this might explain why the channels disappear, or maybe become tuned to an out of area signal which drops below the threshold for reception later in the day. The fact that retuning brings them back shows that you are still able to receive them on your aerial. The aerial might need attention if the signal strength and/or quality on the SDN mux (C50) is seen to be poorer than on the other muxes, otherwise your existing aerials should be ok for the current frequency allocation.
