STV is not part of ITV plc so would continue as at present. It is also highly likely that if France, Germany, Spain and Italy all spoke the same language there would be, at least in the commercial sector, a number of channels that covered several countries with the same service, rather like Eurosport does. With regard to encryption of satellite services, it could come down to whether Sky are expected to pay re-transmission fees to the PSB broadcasters, as has been suggested. In the event that they are, it would not be surprising if Sky insisted that such channels become part of their subscription packages. This would give the PSB broadcasters some welcome additional income, whilst also being the end of Freesat.

John: Dave on satellite is part of a Sky subscription package, so will appear scrambled on equipment which is only suitable for FTA reception.

jean prince: Are there any NW region channels, that work correctly, stored in the 800s part of the channel list? If there are, this will usually be because your tuner finds the signal from Wales before it finds the NW signal, so puts the second options in the 800s. It might also be that the signal from Wales is currently stronger than the NW signal if your tuner is one which gives preference to the strongest signal. In either case retuning will simply give the same result each time it is carried out. If you have a channel swapping facility on your tuner you can swap the NW version from the 800s with the version from Wales on positions 1, 2 and 3. Without more detailed information as to your location, such as a postcode or that of a nearby shop, it is not possible to know precisly which transmitters you are able to receive. If such information is to hand, advice for manual tuning to the correct transmitter can be given, assuming your tuner offers a manual tuning option. Alternatively, if your signals are from Moel-Y-Parc and Winter Hill, after clearing the channel list, commence the retune, but have the aerial unplugged when scanning for channels during the section C38 to C46 of the scan so as to miss out the Moel-Y-Parc PSB muxes. Make sure the aerial is plugged in again before C49! This should then store NW channels in their required positions in the channel list.

C buckland: In order to keep costs down, there are only a few versions of ITV+1, resulting in viewers receiving the wrong regional news, weather forecasts and commercials in areas served by an ITV+1 from an adjacent region. On the plus side though, there are some viewers who are unable to receive the intended transmitter for their area due to hills or other obstructions in the signal path, so whilst receiving the wrong ITV they are able to receive their correct region via ITV+1.

SomeGuyFromBristol: The PSB muxes are transmitted from both Mendip and Wenvoe at the same power, however local hills block the signal path from Mendip (and Wenvoe too) in parts of Bristol, which is why relays at Kings Weston Hill for NW parts of Bristol and Ilchester Crescent for central and Southern areas of Bristol are necessary. If your aerial is pointing to Mendip, if you want to miss out Wenvoe and Kings Weston signals before the scan reaches the required Mendip frequencies, try unplugging the aerial for the first half of the scan, plugging it in at about C46 so as to receive C48 onwards from Mendip.

Mal Grey: What do you now have listed at position 10 in the channel list? Does this give a viewable channel when selected? It is possible that the listing for ITV3 at 808 is the service from Rowridge on C25 rather than that from Whitehawk Hill on C57. If you had good reception from Whitehawk prior to the retune, you should still have similar reception unless co-incidentally C57 has suddenly become subject to interference. If you have a manual tune facility on your receiver try selecting C57 to do a check on the strength and quality of any signal being received on that frequency.

Matt: It works just about correctly with IE6. However my firefox only loads the first four sections of the menu and displays page selected behind the menu page, so making them illegible.

Watlingfen: Surely it is one of the advantages of cable if you are able to receive East Midlands news, which local hills make difficult on Freeview. Sky too would normally deliver East Midlands as first choice in Leicestershire.

Iain Davies: STV already have an agreement with ITV plc to show Coronation Street and are not likely to throw away the chance of large audiences that please advertisers, and "SBC" would surely purchase the rights to show Eastenders, which is cheaper than producing a comparable drama series themselves and gives the BBC funding towards its production. Plus it keeps the viewers happy.
